[Question #7890] how did I get fever blisters on my backside?

I am 60 years old, divorced but living with a man for the last 11 years. I've never had a cold sore on my mouth, or a genital herpes outbreak of any kind. However, I started getting strange spot-rashes on my buttocks a few years ago, first on the right side, now on the left. Raised red bumps with a light-colored center, like little whitish eggs laid into the skin. I have a photo. Its itchy and painful, but a spray-on calamine lotion relieves the itch and pain right away and dries it up in a few days. When my dermatologist told me the 1st time that it was a "fever blister," I was dumbfounded. My ex-husband had genital herpes, but he always chose to use a condom during intercourse to protect me from "asymptomatic shedding" (his words), and to prolong his erection. We also wasn't eager to have kids, altho we were in our 30's. We never had anal sex, but often he would simply rub his erection against my backside to achieve orgasm. He never had a herpes outbreak the entire 7 yrs we were together, but could my current sores be from that skin-to-skin contact so long ago?

Was any testing done of these areas to determine that this is actually herpes? It does sound like it from your description, but just wondering if testing was done to determine if it was actually herpes and if yes, then was it HSV 1 or HSV 2? So you never had unprotected intercourse with your ex husband? Did he ever give you oral sex? If yes, and he was infected with HSV 1, with or without symptoms,he could have transferred this virus to you and your outbreaks are now on the buttocks. it is likely at some point you had a genital outbreak but may have missed it or attributed it to something else. I don't think you acquired this from him rubbing his penis on your buttocks in the past.
