[Question #7933] Transmission of Herpes

Hi Doctors,
I have been living extremely anxious for the past 48 hours. I had an intimate interaction with a female a couple of days go. In that interaction, we never kissed, we never had any forms of intercourse and that includes oral. However, there was a moment where she spit her saliva on to my genitals (penis) so that I could use it as a lubricant. She did not touch my genitals whatsoever. I then proceeded immediately to touch myself. That is how it ended. I am now extremely concerned about having contracted Herpes either 1 or 2. I did not see any lesions or sores visible on her lips or around her mouth but I can't be sure as to what's going on in her mouth. I don't know if she was having an active outbreak or not. What I do know is that she did not seem to be in any visible discomfort and was smiling and had good energy. I don't have contact with this individual so I can't really ask them.
My question is- can herpes be transmitted by someone spitting on your genitals and me using it as lubricant? Can just interacting with someone like touching their back or torso in an intimate also lead to transmitting?
Thank you!

you do not need to be concerned about this event. To get herpes, you need to have considerably more contact than simply some saliva. Herpes virus is rarely found IN the mouth and it it was, it would take more direct contact with the mouth tissues for you to get herpes from someone's mouth which you say didn't happen. I would put this worry OUT of your head. Try to stop everything on the internet. And certainly not touching someone's body is not going to transmit herpes either. You are OK

Thank you Nurse Terri! You have helped me immensely with your reassurance. I am in a much better mental state after reading your response. I know i'll second guess myself if I don't ask for one more clarification so please forgive me if this is repetitive.
The chances of contracting herpes if she simply spat a quarter-sized amount of saliva onto my penis would be next to none because my genitals, nor my hands or mouth ever made contact with her mouth or face for that matter. I'm assuming she did not have an active breakout but even if she did it would be very minuscule risk?
And the absolute last point- when I meant that I touched her body, I briefly and subtly came into contact with the pubic hair region right above the genitals so that is why I was concerned. I did not do much but touch it for about 5 seconds.
That's all I want to clarify. Thank you.

You are correct. Brief contact with her pubic hair region is not a risk for herpes as the skin is thick and does not shed virus, if she had it.
