[Question #7979] Hiv oral

Hello,

I somehow can't see my previous posts on my mobile and can't remember what I asked before. I had yesterday a date with male who I had approximately 5 dates with in the last 2 years. He's gay and has a friend. He says he doesn't have a lot dates but he says he always uses a condom. About his friend I don't know anything  if he has lot of intercourse with men.
Yesterday I just French kissed him  and gave him unprotected blowjob. He gave me unprotected blowjob too. I took yesterday 2 prep pills, today one and tomorrow I have too take one too. So I am intermittent prep user.

What is my risk for this event? I am  bi and very selective now  about my dates. I don't date a lot anymore and my hiv test came back negative in 28th April. I am worried also because since 2 months I am a single dad.

Welcome back to the IV. I’ll be glad to come it. I presume that by “intermittent” PrEP you mean PrEP on demand. If so you are fully protected from acquisition of HIV. Prep on demand is just as affective as daily PrEP.

If your partner happens to be HIV-infected, the exposures you describe are very low risk.  There is no risk of acquiring HIV from French kissing or receiving oral sex. The risk of acquiring HIV from performing oral sex on an infected partner is less than one infection per 20,000 episodes. In other words, 99.999% of such encounters will not result in infection.

I hope the information I have provided is helpful to you. In my opinion, your risk is so low that the only real reason for testing would be for any assurance that you feel you need. Please don’t worry. EWH

Hello,

Yes it is prep on demand. I don't want to use daily because the long terms effects of the medicine isn't known yet.  The day after I felt a bit of a sore throat and it wasn't a vigoursly bj. Could sore throat be after a day (something else than hiv)?

Kind regards

Thanks for the additional information. You’re sore throat one day following oral sex could have been from the trauma of the activity. A single day is too quick for any infectious process to cause a sore throat.  EWH ---

Hi,

I don't think the bj I gave was against back of my throat.  Can I continue to give bj's and taking prep on demand and don't have to worry about future events? Or is taking prep on demand for bj really necessary?
Thank you for the previous information.

Kind regards

While performing fellatio on an infected, untreated partner is not no risk, it is low risk for acquisition of HIV, with about 1 infection for every 20,000 sex acts.  PrEP on demand however is a good idea and makes such activity virtually no risk.

This completes this thread.  Take care. EWH
