[Question #7980] HPV transmission

I recently asked about oral transmission to my son when he was an infant by accident.  It made me think of another question.  I had a friend who was a nurse that would  have babies suck on her finger as a newborn to calm them. She did this to my son as a newborn and all I can think it what if she had HPV under her nails like these studies you see on the internet talk about now.   What would be the chance that an infant could contract HPV orally this way?  I keep reading its common to have hpv under the nails, but of course im only worried about the high risk type like hpv 16 that could be acquired this way.   Would this be likely?  As a nurse of course she washed her hands all the time, but if she had an active infection would something like this be possible?     And would the hand washing even help ?

Welcome back to the forum although it sounds me that you felt the need. The questions you ask now are variants on your earlier questions related to acquisition of HPV through indirect transfer on a persons fingers or hands. As Dr. Handsfield told you just nine days ago, if this happens at all and there is no evidence that it does it is extraordinarily rare and not something to worry about.

It is becoming clear that you were having trouble controlling these unrealistic concerns. As a health professional, I’m confident you know how important it is for persons with unrealistic worries to seek counseling to keep those concerns from impacting their quality of life.  I would suggest that you consider seeking professional counseling. . I make this recommendation purely  out of concern for you and the fact that you were having such a difficult time getting away from these unrealistic concerns. EWH
