[Question #8134] Scars from genital HSV1

35 year old male, diagnosed with genital HSV1 in Feb 2018 (diagnosed by swab).  Had one minor outbreak in July 2019 and no other symptoms until 20 days ago.  20 days ago I noticed several swollen spots on my penis.  I went to doctor to get looked at and they confirmed it was an HSV1 outbreak via swab test (Very stressed by work the last few months which has led to bad eating/drinking and sleeping habits.  Taken steps to get myself out of that situation).  I never really experienced much/any pain or itching.  I wouldn't say the sores broke open but there was a little bit of fluid evident occasionally.   They scabbed over and the scabs fell off almost a week ago, about two weeks after I first noticed them.  Where the sores were, the skin still looks lighter than the surrounding skin and appears a little bit thicker in one place.  I'm worried about long-term scarring on my penis.  My question is does it sometimes take longer for the skin to fully heal in this area and is there anything topical I can safely apply to reduce/prevent potential scarring?

Oh, so the good news is that the skin on your penis should resolve completely in a month or so, at the most.  If you are a person of color, it may take a little longer to regain the pigment where the lesions were located.  There is really nothing topically that I can suggest that would speed that process.
I'm glad to hear that you are taking steps to resolve your work stressed and life style habits so recurrences should return to being infrequent.
