[Question #8141] HPV forever?

I was never actually diagnosed by a doctor but I got GW when I was around 19. I did somethings, which has left scars but they went away. A few years later I was in a relationship and the female found out she had HPV. We were in a relationship for 10 years. I would occasionally have flat small spots come and go but never on my penis. Only in my pubic hair region. That relationship has ended almost two years ago I have now noticed 3 or 4 places in my pubic hair region that look like very flat warts, not really any different in color then the rest of my skin. I have been applying emuaidmax on them and just started taking AHCC by papillex. I am now 35 years old. Do you think I am dealing with the same infection or is it something different? I do not want to be alone for the rest of my life but this is consuming my mind 24/7. If we were passing it back and forth over those 10 years, will this clear itself as I am not currently with anyone. If it clears will it be ok to go on about my life or should I be disclosing this to every girl I may talk to. Sorry for the long story but I need some help. What are your thoughts on the emuaidmax and AHCC by papillex. Also i want to get the vaccine for it, do you recommend that at age 35? Thanks.

Welcome to our forum. Thanks for your questions. There appear to be a number of questions embedded in your post and I will do my best to answer them. Before I get into specifics however, let me remind you that most sexually active adults will require HPV infections during the course of their lives. Over 80% of sexually active persons have HPV. When they do, a small proportion of those developed visible genital warts while others have HPV infection which is not Clinically apparent. Thus it is more likely than not that you do have HPV although from your descriptions it is difficult for me to tell whether of you have truly had general warts or not. Let me know I’ll try to go on an address some of the questions you raise:
---
Your description of “flat spots which come and go” does not suggest HPV. When HPV is present and causes lesions, those lesions appear as visible genital warts which tend to stay for a period of time although most will ultimately resolved without any therapy whatsoever. They do not come and go. Furthermore the vast majority of visible genital warts occur on the penis in men. Lesions occurring in the region of the pubic hair which tend to come and go are more likely to be cysts or folliculitis. To address what these lesions are I strongly recommend that you see a trained clinician, either a dermatologist or someone who has experience in dealing with HPV infections.
I am not familiar with either emuaidmax or AHCC And they are not amongst the therapies for HPV recommended by the centers for disease control and prevention. From look at looking into them on the Internet however both appear to be immune stimulants which will most probably do no harm. Whether or not they work for HPV infections is harder to say.
It is not clear to me that the lesions you are concerned about are HPV and thus it is not clear to me that disclosure is crucial. While disclosure about past and present STI’s is an important part of sexual relationships, information about HPV infections is often misinterpreted. We do not feel it is absolutely necessary to notify sexual partners that you may have had HPV. Once again I encourage you to explore the issue by finding out first if you truly have HPV infection by visiting a trained clinician.
Finally, the HPV vaccine is now approved for adults up to age 45. It is clear to me that you have concerns about HPV infection and for that reason I would encourage you to get it. I see no contraindication or disadvantage to you getting the HPV vaccine.
I hope the information I provided has been helpful to you. If parts of my answers are unclear please feel free to use your up to two follow-up questions for clarification. Take care. EWH

Thank you for your quick response. Im sorry I dont think I described it very well, when I said come and go it could be for months sometimes. Never days, and there was never any pain like I would associate with a cyst or folliculitis. When I search the internet, which I is usually a bad idea, there really are not many pictures that look like what I seem to have. I just want to make sure I am not spreading anything to anyone I may meet. I am definitely going to see my doctor and talk to him about getting the vaccine. With the female I was dating for 10 years being told she had it, I just assumed I still had it as well since 4 years prior to that I did have GW on my penis. That was only a couple years into the relationship and I have never had anything show up on my penis, just in the pubic hair region. I will take your advice and get it checked out by a professional in the area. Thanks so much for your help.
