[Question #8143] Menstration blood risk

I had a massage and we were both naked. The lady was on top of me rubbing against my body. There was no penetration and there was no intentional frottage.
The lady sat up with her sitting straddled over my right leg just above my knee as she started to stroke my penis and we were talking as I always see her when I have massage and we therefore chat.
I noticed I felt dampness on my leg whilst she was sitting on my leg which surprised me as no reason for her to be arroused. As she got up off my leg I straight away noticed blood and clot on my leg. It was her period starting she told me which she was not happy about as she has told me previously and again during the massage she is trying for baby with partner.
She wiped the blood off my leg with dry wipe and we continued without any more body on body and she just gave me a hand rub on body and  masturbated me.
However, since this happened I am now worrying due to the blood dripping. Am worried about the blood on my leg whilst she was sitting on me and also if any dripped on my penis or other body parts during body on body. Also worry her hand touching my penis with her blood still on her hands as she touched the blood on my leg before wiping it off. My concern is for HIV as that’s my worry always.
I did ring her afterwards to try and reduce my worry by asking about the situation but when I mentioned the blood she just went all frosty and wanted me off the phone. She was also I presume busy as could hear others in the shop in background and she runs the shop and takes the bookings etc etc. So basically I never got any clarity or reassurance on her status as she didn’t want to discuss when I called her.
Therefore I wanted to understand my risks with this incident with the menstration blood on my body and possibly on penis via drip, rub or hand contact.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to before and thanks for your question. I’ll be glad to comment.

As you likely are already aware, it is statistically improbable that your masseuse has HIV (particularly if she is trying to get pregnant). If she was infected however, this was a no risk event. FYI, if she had untreated HIV infection the amount of HIV in menstrual blood is approximately the same as the amount which would be present in genital secretions. Thus, just as is the case when individuals participate in mutual masturbation and get each other’s genital secretions on one another, there was no risk from the contact of blood from your skin. HIV is transmitted only through penetrative sexual encounters and injection of infected material deep in the tissue.

I  see no reason for concern regarding this event, nor any reason for testing. I hope this information is reassuring. If there are further questions or any part of this reply is unclear please don’t hesitate to use you were up to two follow-ups for clarification. EWH

Thank you for your reply Doctor. I think deep down I just always struggle with the acceptance that there is zero chance of HIV from non penetrative sex because I worry about possible vaginal fluid or menstration entering my urethra during even minimal frottage or hand to penis with vagina fluid or menstration on hand. So to be clear as possible with my question is it just not possible to catch HIV from this type of event via mutual masterbation with vaginal fluid or menstration or via penis coming into contact with the vaginal fluid via frottage externally rubbing across the vagina area. Thanks in advance for confirming.

Your summary is right on target.  Exposure to genital secretions (or blood) during the exposure you described, as well as during frottage or mutual masturbation is accepted by experts as a no risk event.  Your concerns about theoretical entrance of secretions into urethra represent a level of risk similar to the probability of having a meteorite fall from the sky and strike you.  Really.  Please don’t worry.
