Hello, is it possible to receive a positive IGG result for HSV2 7 days after receiving oral sex?

I think that is almost not possible. First, seven days is very early to be positive on an antibody test. Second, HSV 2 is almost never transmitted via oral sex. What was the index value of the positive HSV 2 IgG test, do you have that? That will be helpful as well.

The positive value was 2.5 for the HSV 2 IgG test. I hadn't had any symptoms for any STI's, but did an at-home panel of tests about 7 days after the oral sex . Thank you.

That is what we call a low positive and there is a very reasonable chance that it is a false positive. The CDC recommends that you obtain a confirmatory test like the western blot. You may not have HSV 2 at all.

Thank you. I will do that. How long does it typically takes for IgG antibodies to show up on a test? Is it possible to have HSV2 for some time and not know it? Also, you said that it rarely is already transmitted during oral sex? Is this just receptive oral sex or also if you genital herpes and are giving the oral sex?

They can show up as soon as 8-10 days with a very low index value or as long as 12 weeks. And the IgG test misses 30% of HSV 1 and 8% of HSV 2 compared to the western blot.

So, to summarize, it would be possible to have a 2.5 IgG index value after 7 days? But you think that the chances are low, especially considering it was oral sex? Thank you.

I don't think the 2.5 has anything to do with an oral sex contact 7 days prior.
