[Question #8242] Equivocal results from shingles?

I have a new partner and she requested I get tested before we start being sexual and after my results came back I was equivocal (.98) for Hsv 2. I’ve been retested twice since the initial test and both have come Back equivocal (1.00, 1.01) with the scale being .91-1.09 for equivocal. I’ve given weeks of time before each test to ensure I’m getting proper results but I’ve NEVER had any type of symptoms or outbreak , lesions, anything.
I did have a shingles outbreak a few years ago around my ear and was wondering if I keep getting this reading if shingles is making the test seem higher/lower as they’re not the same but from the same family?
Is there a better test that’s available? These tests where completed by stdcheck.com via labcorp.

There is a better test available, the herpes westernblot. It is done only at the University of Washington but your own provider can order or I can order it for you at westoverheights.com. I sincerely doubt that you have HSV 2 with no symptoms and two equivocal tests, but it is remotely possible.
I don't think the shingles has anything to do with your positive test. We like to do the western blot when it has been 12 weeks since any concerning sexual encounter.

I went ahead and ordered the westernblot a few days ago, hoping that clears it up

OK, remember that you can order the kit but you cannot order this particular test by yourself - you will have to have a provider order it for you.
