[Question #8268] HIV question

Drs..Quick question...Met up with a woman whom I have known for almost a year. She said she recently was tested in August and was all clear. Had unprotected oral and protected vaginal sex, then finished unprotected oral. Condom did not break, and was on thru the entire time of vaginal sex..no breaks..applied correctly etc... After we had finished she had mentioned she goes to sex parties occasionally..soo im thinking that is more high risk..who knows. But overall just wondering risk of HIV. im guessing overall act was safe but..would like an experts opinion..
Thanks!

Welcome to our Forum and thanks for your question. I'll be glad to comment. I presume you received unprotected oral sex from the partner you mentioned. Several comments:
1. If she tested negative in August, even if she has other partners, it is statistically unlikely that she acquired HIV in the interval since then,
2. Receipt of oral sex is VERY low risk for acquisition of HIV. There are no reported, proven cases in which someone has acquired HIV from receipt of oral sex from an infected partner.
3. The risk for acquisition from performing oral sex on an untreated, infected partner is also very low. Most of the cases occur in men performing oral sex on other men and occur, on average, only once in every 10,000 exposures to an untreated HIV infected partner (i.e. like performing oral sex once a day every day for more than 27 years)
4. The risk for other STIs from receipt of oral sex is also very low but it does occur. The most common STI is gonorrhea which, when it occurs, typically is symptomatic within 3-5 days after exposure.
I hope this helps. Presuming you are asymptomatic, I would not be worried. EWH

yes thank you. I thought that would be the case and then after reading my question..i figured the overall act was safe ...due to the use of condom...weird thing was i was more worried about the protected act rather than the unprotected oral....i guess condoms work:)
