Greeting Dr. Handsfield

As you suggested I am working with Psychotherapist to overcome my unnormal fears of contamination, obsessive-compulsive behavior, etc. I am really sorry to be back to ask a question again. It has been little better with my unnormal reasonless anxiety.

Doctor followings are my questions:
- As Dr. Hook suggested I have visited a radiologist who evaluated my lymph nodes before, this time she found they to become smaller by 10-20%. She thinks that there is no reason to be worried about, she said this happens and even her kids have had swollen lymph nodes. But I am still little worried because they are all around the body and achy. She also said, if I remain concerned I may visit a immunologist, I suppose to evaluate possibility of autoimmune disease?
- Yesterday I got an injury on my finger while helping friend to move, My finger got cut and touched same place of an object which also touched a blood stains on sidewalk brick pavement. Also after an hour or two I have touched a mirror at dentists office with the cut. I was little worried about it since yesterday, because there in downtown there are drunk fight or drug users walk at night.

Thanks and stay safe!

I have one more question about Herpes Simplex
- I have painful things on right side of my mouth roof. Fortunately I had a routine visit to my dentist yesterday, and she said its herpes simplex and it will heal up itself in few days. So its day 6 now and today it became almost non-painfully and smaller. But past 2 days I was feeling a little malaise and headache. So I was wondering is this something to be worried about? What can reason for it to appear?

I’m pleased that you are seeking psychological help.  Your current questions are a manifestation of your pathological anxiety.  HIV is not acquired by touching potentially contaminated objects of the sort you describe, even if they have touch a blood spot or mirrors.  You should discuss these concerns with your therapist.

There is no reason to worry about the persistence of your oral sore.  It sounds like it is healing and there is no reason to think that your headache is related to this or a manifestation of HIV or other serious infection.

Please don’t worry.  Continue to work with your therapist. EWH

Dear Dr. Hook thanks a lot for your response.

- I was just was a little worried that my cut on finger touched that object which touched a possibly blood stain on pavement.

- Yes, it is almost healed up. It was there for like 5-6 days. My dentist said almost everybody have it time to time. I beleive this is normal thing and 5-6 days to heal up is also normal time for it?

- Also if you remember I have asked about bumps on cheeks, dentist said those are not bumps and they are very normal part of mouth.

- I know that it is not due to STI or blood borne diseases, but it still makes me to worry a little. Doctor do you think that I should visit immunologist to further evaluate lymph nodes to find the reason of swelling?

Thanks!

The cut on your makes no difference.  The concern that recent cuts represent a potential site for infection I’d a common misperception.

I agree with your dentist. The fact that the oral herpes lesions are improving it’s a good sign and should not concern you and does not need additional follow up.

I also do not feel that you need to see you in immunologist. The fact that lymph nodes that you were worrying about are becoming smaller, which probably represent something entirely normal, Is reassuring and indicates that there is no need to see an immunologist.  EWH

Dear Dr. Hook

Thanks a lot I will follow your suggestions and move on without concern. To calm an anxiety I will reread whenever needed our previous thread where we have established that I am not at risk and I don't have STI or bloodborne infection. I will keep working with my psychotherapist to overcome my abnormal fears, obsessive compulsive and anxiety disorders.

One question for future, If I start to date or marry a girl, If she gets full STD check right before engaging in relationship, will this be enough?

Thanks doctor for your help and stay safe! Take care!

I’m pleased that you found my reply is helpful.

I think your strategy for assuring that someone you were about to marry does not have STI’s is a good one. Before beginning to have sex, it is always a good idea to be tested. If both persons test and are negative then there’s no reason related to HIV or other STI’s to abstain from unprotected sex.  An added benefit of this approach is that it allows both members of the couple to be confident and trusting in their partner and to initiate conversations about each other’s sexual health.

As you know, with this third reply this thread is complete and will be close shortly. Take care. EWH
