[Question #8301] Potential HPV warts.

Potential HPV warts worry.

I asked a question about this the other day but I'm still worried because in my distressed state I left out some detail.

Noticed a small greyish lump at the base of my penis. A couple of millimetres at most. Doctor said it was too small to tell.

In my fumbling around to show doctor the tiny spot, I also found another small reddish spot above it in the pubic region of similar size.  Doctor said too small to tell.

Both spots were hit with liquid nitrogen.

I know previously it was said that not likely to be HPV warts, but I'm worried that this additional reddish spot might indicate otherwise, and would like an opinion.  Am I over-reacting? (I do have OCD about medical issues).

Also, I wanted to follow up about something said about the small chance of HPV warts. It was said that HPV isn't a big deal, but what does this mean, practically? If it was warts, do I avoid intimate contact for six months without warts? Should I be taking medicine and worried about the potential for lack of wart clearance?

Thanks in advance, and I apologize for my paranoia. I cannot help it.

Welcome back to the form. There was really no need to start a new thread that you had one reply in your previous thread

Thank you for the additional information you have provided and for acknowledging your OCD. None of the additional information changes my assessment in the least. Genital warts/HPV do not appear as small red spots in the pubic area either. I suspect that what has happened is that in with your anxiety, you have examined yourself far more closely did you ever had before noting abnormalities which were normal and previously present.

I suspect that the Doctor Who treated you with good nitrogen did so because he felt that the lesions you’d noted were inconsequential and erroneously presumed that once removed you would not worry further about them. Perhaps he was not aware of your OCD. Failing to give you a more definitive diagnosis however is obviously not helping your OCD.  Should you find additional lesions, I urge you to see a dermatologist and to seek an explanation rather than non-specific treatment.

Please see my earlier response regarding why, IF the lesion(s) were HPV, there would still be no reason to modify your dating plans or to hesitate about future sexual encounters.   I also recommended that you look at other discussions on this forum about HPV, partner referral, and the lack of need for abstinence following a genital wart/HPV diagnosis.  That recommendation still holds.

I hope this helps. Please check out other interactions on the forum. If anything is unclear or additional questions come up, please feel free to use your updates to follow ups for clarification. EWH

Thanks a lot.

I've been reading from other HPV threads that the majority of GW's in men are on the penis. The one bump (the first, greyish one) was at the base of my penis adjacent to where it attaches to pubic region. I'm assuming that has no bearing on what you have already said?

As I said in my original reply to you, the location of the gray bump that you described, at the base of your penis, would be a most unlikely place for a wart to appear. The lesion you described neither sounded like a wart nor was it at a location typical for a wart.  This was all said in my original response.  I really think your mind is in overdrive over something that is really, absolutely, a non-issue and which is not worth worrying about in the least. Thanks again.
I'm seeing a therapist for my OCD.

My follow up question is this. If the greyish lump grows back, does that increase the chances that it's GW?

No, should the lesion recur, it does not make it more likely that it a wart.  It would give you a chance to get a definitive diagnosis.

End of thread.  Please don’t worry.  EWH
