[Question #8402] Very worried about STIs

Hi- I am very worried about STI’s after receiving oral sex from a stripper about 3.5 weeks ago -  a condom was used - it was put on before I was fully erect but from what I remember there was no skin to skin contact and she brought me to orgasm through masturbation. To my knowledge the condom was in tact. About ten days later I had a sore throat that went away within a few days - people I live with had been sick but with different symptoms. No other STI symptoms, except yesterday while I was weight training, I happened to take a look and saw a small whitish glob on my leg. I have been in a deep depression for the last few weeks and have not been eating or drinking much except over last weekend where I was more normal so I am not sure if I am dehydrated. I went for an STI test yesterday but it is going to take a while to get the results and in the meantime, I am now convinced that I have contracted something due to what I found on my leg. While I have been checking regularly, had I not happened to check down my pants I don’t know If I would have seen what I saw so I am wondering whether I have been having discharge this whole time but it’s gone unnoticed. Please Let me know your thoughts.

Welcome to our Forum. Thanks for your question. I’ll be glad to comment.  Please don’t worry.  The encounter you describe was a no risk event.  I say this for a number of reasons.

Most importantly, you used a condom which remained intact.  Condones are highly effective for STI prevention.  Adding to my confidence are the following factors:
1.  Most commercial sex workers do not have STIs, including HIV.
2.  Even with unprotected sex, most single encounters with infected partners do not result in infection.
3.  You were and remain welcome asymptomatic ( your sore throat does not suggest an STI)

I wonder if the white “glob” you describe might have been mucous from your nose or mouth.

I am confident that your tests will show that you were not infected. EWH

Thank you Dr. I don’t think the “glob” was  from my nose or mouth because it was on my inner thigh which was covered. I didn’t see any residue on my penis but is there anything else that could cause that sort of discharge? Could the strain from working out be somehow related? And I suppose I’m still unclear on what discharge related to an STI would be like? In terms of volume, frequency, consistency. This was very small and and mainly clear with a little white mixed in. Thanks again.

Thanks for the additional information regarding the “blob” that you saw. Despite it being covered, this does not change my opinion.

FYI, The discharge which is characteristic of STI’s is typically present continuously, not on one occasion and then not afterwards. Further the onset of discharge typically occurs between three and 10 days following an exposure not at almost 3 weeks.

I remain confident that your tests will be negative. EWH

Hi Dr.

To provide an update, yesterday  I noticed some white discharge in my urine as I sat on the toilet moving my bowels and saw it again  twice today. During the last instance I paid careful attention to my penis to  make sure what I saw in the toilet actually came from urinating and did see it exit my body. It resembled ejaculation. In all instances where I saw some discharge I was in the seated position and straining (the aforementioned workout which was the first instance last week (where it was very small) and then  these last three times over the last two days while I was on the toilet). I am still awaiting the results of my STD test. I took a full panel test and everything came back negative except  gonnorhea and chlamydia which are still outstanding.  I know in your prior communication you highlighted the reasons infection seems unlikely but these instances of discharge have me very worried again. Many thoughts area going through my
mind such as perhaps there was a condom malfunction I hadn’t noticed  after my encounter and that maybe I have been having slight symptoms all along that went unnoticed.  At times I suppose it feels like there is a little pressure in my urethra but I have been so anxious about this and constantly checking and pulling and probing at myself that I thought it might have been brought on by that.

Just wanted to get your thoughts on these new developments and also ask whether a traditional STD test would pick up on all possible infections (I have read in some of your other posts that swabs are necessary in some cases).

I’m not sure if this would be an important factor to consider  but I have not been having sex since the CSW experience occurred a month ago and my frequency of ejaculation (through sex or masturbation) had reduced drastically from normal because of my anxiety over this. Not sure if that could be related.

A small amount of normal genital secretions can sometimes be seen when persons closely examine themselves.  This is normal. In addition, when persons strain such as when they have a bowel movement, small amounts of prostate secretions may be expressed and or seen.  I am inclined to attribute what you’ve seen to your hyper vigilance.

FYI, when condoms fail, they break wide open leaving no doubt that they failed.  You would have known if your condom failed.

I remain confident that your tests will show that you were not infected. EWH
