Hi,

First let me say Dr. Handfield has help me and this by no means should reflect on him, I am simply asking for a fresh look. There was a little confusion on my wording but in the end, it was straightened out. I am going to paste and then edit it.

Had oral me giving oral with ejaculation on 10/28. There was a 2 second French kiss also, No other sex to date. On 11/5 had blood drawn for a routine physical all number within limits.

Two days later 11/13 had a dry throat and a very miner sore throat but only with a few swallows then gone.  Two days later 11/14 17  [17days from exposure]  I developed white spots in my throat, and it seemed like two little sack of white something hanging in my uvula no pain and when I put a cue tip on one of them it disappeared. I went to urgent care and explained my events and my worry that I had might have oral Gonorrhea. The Doc. Without hesitation ordered me a single dose of Azithromycin [ZITHROMAX] and ceftriaxone [ROCEPHIN]. Two-days after the shots the uvula was cleared [don’t know of it fell off or not] and a few days later  [11/19] the red patches were gone and on 11/22 my throat feels fine. I have read and as Dr Handfield stated the timeline seems a little late 18 days from exposure to get symptoms and the quick Antibiotic action seems to point away from Herpes but my mind keeps thinking “what else could that have been ? Is there any hope for me?

Here is my timeline:

 1-Event was on 10/28

2- The first indication of throat discomfort was on 11/13 but did not bother me so mild felt dry.

3- Took STI tests on 11/15 with no throat problems.

4- On 11/17 first noticed the white spots on uvula went to Urgent care Dr. gave me the pills and a shot

5- On 11/19 Uvula cleared up

6- By 11/22 all is back to normal.

7- today 11/23 got all the STI results back all NEG. Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia. And as I said HIV rapid test week before was NEG.

I am freeking out for I have small Grandkids and need to find anyway to protect them

So I'm hoping I understand what you said here:  You gave oral sex to someone and they gave oral sex to you, is that correct?  And this has been your only sexual experience?
Have you ever in your life had a cold sore on your lip or in your nose?
I think that if you were never infected with herpes in the past (in the form of cold sores),that if you had acquired herpes at this encounter, your symptoms would be more dramatic than those that you describe.  That isn't true every single time, but the white spots on your uvula are quite non-specific and do not sound suggestive of first-episode herpes infection.
It is unfortunate, in my opinion, that you were treated for STIs without any testing to suggest that you were infected in your throat with an STI. But it is what it is.
I would agree with Dr. Hansfield that these symptoms came up very late to be a result of an infection from this encounter.
I'm glad that your symptoms are gone now and I hope that you can take the worry of herpes off your plate.

You gave oral sex to someone and they gave oral sex to you, is that correct?  NO, I gave to him .  Also to my knowledge I never had HSV and have been sexually active but not since this event.

I performed on him and I have never has a cold sore. I have been sexually active in the passed but try to be very selective and NEVER been into kissing that's what freeking me out along with the unusual symptoms. Also in the past got tested all NEG but as you say the test are not reliable.

So are you saying that his does not fit for infection and I shouldn't worry about it?

I am saying that I don't believe it fits with the presentation of herpes.
You've been tested for herpes in the past and you are negative for HSV 1 and 2?  Is that correct?  Then I believe even more that this is likely not herpes because that would likely mean you would be having a true first infection and your symptoms are highly unlikely to be consistent with a brand new infection in someone who has neither HSV 1 nor HSV 2.  Yes, I thinkyou can stop worrying about it.

Thanks Terri

Do you agree also about the timing late? It was 17 days after the episode that these throat things popped up?
Also as in my post, I did test Neg. for all STI  18 days after this event.

I think the DR in the Urgent Care knew I panicking about Gonorrhea and simply gave me a strong antibiotic that would kill anything related. Wish he would have tested for Strep but I had zero pain.

Hope I can get on with living

I totally agree with Dr. Handsfield that the timing is very late for something to show up that was related to the encounter, correct.
A negative herpes antibody test at 18 days out cannot be considered accurate, I'm afraid.
I hope you can get on with living also!
