[Question #8438] recurring issue

I have a recurring issue. Problem lasts usually a month or two and then goes away. Has done over the past 4 years. I'm a male. Received oral. Shortly after started getting increased urination, pain in testicles like they are contracting. Also get sharp stinging pain in testes - no swelling. Singing pains down legs and around pelvis and sometimes buttocks. Got tested for stis 3 times after initial event and all negative. Had bladder scan and prostate exam - all clear. currently my symptoms are discomfort/pain in testes - feels like contraction and then i get the odd sharp pain usually around pelvis genitals and legs. Earlier this month I felt I was itching all over random body itches. Now is more like tiny bee stings. I know I have had clear tests but could there be some other kind of bacteria that's got into my system from the incident. Wife has no complaints but recenty has said she feels itchy all over in random places. But this is the first time in 4 years she's said anything. My symptoms don't match with anything I read but it's been such a recurring issue I need to get it address. Doctors don't have a clue and have not suggested anything of value. Can bacteria last in your body for 4 years and come and go like I'm feeling. If it was chlamydia could it lie dormant and come back each year.

Welcome to the forum. Thank you for your question and for your confidence in our services.
I agree with your doctors: I also "don't have a clue". Most important for purposes of this forum, there is no STI that causes such symptoms. I also have to believe you have no infection of any kind, and I strongly doubt your wife's itching is because of any infection you are sharing with her. Finally, I'll comment that receiving unprotected oral sex is low risk for all STIs and zero risk for some. I would not recommend testing for any STI.
Having said I "don't have a clue", I would speculate on anxiety about that event: at least your testicular discomfort could be the effect of genitally focused anxiety, a common outcome after a regretted sexual decision or experience. I'm not a believer in psychological factors creating symptoms out of the blue, but they certainly can dramatically magnify trivial symptoms or even normal body sensations that otherwise would not be bothersome and perhaps not even noticed. Perhaps this is something to discuss with your doctor(s), or with your wife, for that matter.
Sorry I can't give the answer you may have hoped for, but I hope these comments are at least comforting or otherwise helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.

Dr Handsfield - Thank you for your reply and information. Yes I have researched this as you could imagine as much as possible to see what my condition could be but come up with nothing so far. However, they are real symptoms as the pains I get are really noticeable. Sometimes itchy but other times a randomw sting in my bottucks, across my pelvies, in testes and down legs. Sometimes I feel it in my penis but this is rare. When I sleep at night I have no issues. I am not woken by any pain. I tend to need to urnate earlier than normal but it's not getting me up in the middle of the night. So I tend to have 8 hours sleep pretty much uninterupted. Perhaps me lying down and not sitting makes a difference. It's so odd that it comes back every 6-12 months roughly. Lasted nearly 2 months now. Sometimes after I urinate I leak a tiny amount. When I check myself in the morning there is no leakage or discharge. But the pain seems to be centred around my testicles and groin and after the event mentioned it's only natural to link the 2. If it were something like chlamydia or gonnorhea would it keep coming back like this? If it was another internal sti (not that I've found any) could that keep re occurring? I have no rashes or blisters so don't believe it to be herpes of any kind. Any more clarification helping me understand the possibilities would be much appreciated

First, as to "they are real symptoms": I didn't imply they aren't real. The symptoms are not in your head, they are physiologic. But that doesn't mean an infection, and it doesn't mean that at least some of them are not psychologically driven. For example, anxiety can increase muscle tension which can cause or exacerbate pain. That's what tension headaches are all about, as well as genital area discomfort of the sort you describe. The only difference between them is the muscles involved: scalp muscles in headache, pelvic muscles for genitally focused anxiety.

Second, with these greater details, I think it possible you have prostatitis or the chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS). Google both of them for more information (spell out CPPS) -- you may find lots of similarities with your symptoms.
Neither gonorrhea nor chlamydia causes symptoms like you describe. Not even close, except for the general area of the body involved. And anyway, chlamydia is extremely rare from oral sex; and either gonorrhea or chlamydia would have been cleared by your immune system long before now -- typically within a few weeks or months.
Don't overthink this. There is no way any STI explains any of this.
