[Question #8442] Sore testicle no other symptoms

Hi doctors,

I recently got back together with an ex girlfriend over the last month.   We began having sex, and about two weeks later I began feeling a dull ache in my left testicle that seemed to move around a bit. I went to the dr, they said nothing seemed inflamed.  However a couple weeks after that initial consultation, my girlfriend took the plan b and about 5 days later had white discharge with a tiny bit of blood in it as well as cramping. Almost as though she was having her period along with a yeast infection.

This caused me to go down a google rabbit hole and it said that it seems as though chlamydia could be the culprit.

How possible is it that having a sore testicle with no swelling, burning sensation when urination as well as no discharge could be chlamydia or anything similar? Is it just coincidental? Or did I just work myself up into a frenzy.

I’ve done a urine test and am currently waiting the results. I’m scheduled for an ultrasound as well.

Thanks!

Welcome to our firm and thanks for your questions. I’ll be glad to comment.

For an STI to cause testicular discomfort for several weeks in the absence of a penile discharge would be most unusual.  Given your concerns and the fact that you had been separated from your girlfriend for sometime before resuming your relationship, there remains a slight possibility that chlamydia is present and for that reason, as well as the benefits that reassurance would provide, I think that a urine test for chlamydia is a good idea.  While I anticipate that it will be negative, I suspect that until you have your test results, you will continue to worry.  I hope that when the results are available, you will share them.

In addition, I would like to gently encourage you to avoid searching the Internet for information about STI symptoms. While the Internet is a great means of communication it is an often misleading source of medical information and can all too often lead you down a rabbit hole.

I hope this information is helpful. If any part of my message is unclear or further clarification is needed please don’t hesitate do use your up to two follow-ups for that purpose. EWH

Thank you for the quick response. I will definitely let you know the update when I know.  As for my girlfriends symptoms, is that something that seems typical for an std or an after effect of plan b. the discharge and bleeding and cramping 5 days after taking it? She says it’s like getting her period early.  The symptoms of discharge have gone away pretty much.

She got her pap and everything else checked in July/august and everything came back negative.   I’m sure I’m just stressing, but I’ll know in the coming days and post again here regarding my results.

Appreciate it

No the symptoms you describe in your GF are not particularly suggestive of an STI.  Genitourinary symptoms in women are notoriously nonspecific.  Once again, I encourage you to wait for test results.  EWH ---

Thank you.  I’ll let you know tomorrow or Friday when I hear back.

One last question. Today while urinating I noticed one or two super tiny white floating particles. Would this be indicative of infection or again, am I looking to far into it.

You are demonstrating hyper vigilance. If you always examined your urine as closely as you have been now from time to time you would also see small white particles or even mucus threads.  Please don’t worry. I look forward to hearing your results. EWH---

Thanks for your follow up. Obviously this indicates the need for treatment for you and for your partner.  Enduring cell I would urge you not to get into a debate over who gave chlamydia to whom. The important thing for your relationship as you reenter it is for you both to be treated. I hope this perspective is helpful. Again thanks for the follow up. I’m glad you tested. EWH---

Ouch.  Not so funny but glad this was caught before it became problematic.

Closing thread now.  Take care.  Stay safe. EWH
