[Question #8457] Hand job after receiving wax treatment

I am 38-year-old male.  3 days ago I went to a massage parlor in Paraguay (South America) to get the pubic hair area and penis waxed. Hot wax and tweezers were used. During the waxing process I could spot two follicles with some blood (not a lot but substantial enough to be seen), no gloves were used during this process.  The whole waxing process finished, and after 10-25 minutes (I do not recall the exact amount of time), the masseuse offered me a handjob finishing in ejaculation. She was fully clothed and using a mask all the time.  At this time, I did not notice any blood from anyone.

I have browsed similar situations and the answer were zero risk and no testing needed, however the fact that I did not check the presence of wounds/Blood  in her fingers and the blood mentioned above just a few minutes earlier makes me wonder. So basically, my questions are as follows

1.  Is there any  STD or HIV risk resulting from  the fact the whole pubic hair area/groin was slightly swollen and small amount of blood was seen a few minutes before the handjob considering the possibility of blood/wounds on her hands?

2. Do I need STD or HIV testing on account of this event?

3. Can I continue to have unprotected sex with my wife?

Thank you.

Welcome back to the forum. In preparing to reply, I read your discussion with Dr. Hook a little over 3 years ago (#4601). This situation and your questions are similar, including a question about blood exposure that you didn't notice. My replies this time are pretty much the same as from Dr. Hook.

1. STDs and HIV are not transmitted by hand-genital contact, even if genital fluids or blood contact were involved. I don't think your irritated pubic and penile skin significantly placed you at risk.

2. I do not recommend testing for HIV or other STDs on account of this event.

3.  You can safely continue unprotected sex with your wife (assuming this is your only potential exposure).

For more detailed information, consider going back and re-reading your previous thread.

I hope these comments are helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.

Thank you Doctor for your prompt response. As matter of fact this was my only exposure of concern. I have a few more follow-up questions.
-As to question 1, small presence of blood  due to waxing was seen a few minutes before the handjob as indicated in addition to the irritation, which I still have after 3 days. Based on your knowlege do you think the healing process already started by the time the handjob started (making impossible to contract HIV or any STD)- no saliva involved?
- Your response would be the same even if she had some blood in her hands and I have a wound of this nature?
- Have you seen anyone getting HIV or other STDs in exposures of this nature?

Regards

Dear Doctor. One additional question to the ones added after your response. I fail to mentiond that no condoms or gloves were used during the handjob. This dooes not change your assesment?

Within 3 days, healing probably has begun, but it makes no difference in my reply. That you had shaved and might have had small cuts did not raise the risk of HIV or any STD. Blood or genital fluids on her hands would not make any difference. HIV or other STDs are not transmitted by massage or by hand-genital contact  -- and therefore I have never seen a case myself. (They call them "sexually transmitted" diseases for good reason:  sex itself, just just close body contact, is required for transmission. And in this context, "sex" means only direct genital contact with vaginal, anal, or oral penetration.---

Thank you doctor, you gave peace of mind.

Just this last one,  In this case you meant sex itself, just (not) just close body contact? Regards

Correct:  sorry for the typo. It should read "sex itslef, not just close body contact".

Thanks for the thanks.  That completes the two follow-up comments and replies included included with each original question and so ends this thread. I'm glad it has been helpful.
