[Question #8525] Can an outbreak last one day

I was diagnosed with herpes HSV 2 eight years ago. I don’t normally get outbreaks but when I do they are pretty mild. Yesterday I thought I felt like I had a small outbreak though I didn’t really see anything I just kind of “felt” like it might have been there. But then the next day the feeling was gone. Could it be possible I had a flare up only for one day.
Second, I had sex with my boyfriend the next day after I didn’t feel anything any longer but from what I read, I could still be highly contagious 7 days after. Is this correct? I know it’s always possible but was this an extremely risky time to have had sex?

It is definitely possible to have what we call an "aborted outbreaks" and it sounds like you might have had one.
It is also possible that you were infectious on the day that you had sex with your boyfriend unfortunately.
Does he know that you have genital herpes? Are you taking daily antiviral medication to reduce the risk of transmission to your partner? Has your boyfriend been tested to know that he is not actually infected?

Yes my boyfriend knows, I don’t take antivirals anymore because we both decided it just wasn’t worth it after a couple years. He knows and assumes the risk but I still would like to avoid sex during an outbreak, so I was just trying to get more insight if this could have been one so I know for the future.
I did notice that I had the itchiness and irritation, then it went away for a day, then it actually came back the next day. And when I looked, the fold of my labia was red and my fordyce spots were a little more noticeable. But again no lesions or the pain usually associated with my outbreaks.
I’m wondering if it could be possible irritation from a yeast infection/bv (though I didn’t have any discharge)? I guess in this case it could be simply irritation or it could’ve been an outbreak? I just have never had an outbreak where the symptoms/irritation come and go day to day, it’s usually pretty constant with an OB.
I guess we will wait and see then and I will know to avoid sex even if it’s even bothersome for one day.

It could be irritation from many things. You could have it swab tested when you get these symptoms to get more clarity on whether this is your prodrome or not.
