[Question #8529] Continuous Worry

About 2.5 years ago I had a one time encounter with a stripper. And I have read endlessly surrounding hand to genital as not being an efficient transmission method and certainly understand the rationale behind that. However, my symptoms have waxed and waned over the last couple of years and wanted to get your opinion. Essentially there was manually stimulation using both vaginal fluids and saliva, no direct genital to genital contact. My main symptoms started roughly 1 month after exposure and have pretty regularly persisted. They are urethral irritation and lower abdominal pressure/pain. Occasionally I will have slight burning during urination but it will happen in a singular occurrence and not bother me again for weeks/months. I have seen several doctors all of which don’t suspect anything serious. However, recently I have noticed more prominent blue/purple veins within my urethra that seem easily irritated. I can see very small reddish/purple dots that look almost like spider veins in my urethra. I notice that the irritation seems to get worse whenever I have blood flow to the area and post ejaculation.   This discomfort is usually temporary and I go on with my life. However for someone who has an active sex life irritation every time I have intercourse/masturbate and subsequent ejaculation is taking its toll on me. Is there any chance that I picked up herpes and What iim experiencing is related to that?  I’ve done extensive research and prostatitis/cpps seem to be the most close diagnosis, however they don’t explain the small dots within my urethra.  Is there anything vascular that could be driving this?  Any thoughts on herpes transmission (hsv1 or hsv2) from this singular encounter?  I hope to put this behind me. As an FYI I have been treated and tested for all bacterial stds, a few times and took a herpes test several days after the incident and that was negative (to early to test but for baseline). Any guidance would be extremely appreciated

The veins that you describe have nothing to do with herpes and can vary from time to time, yes.   You mention that this bothers you with sexual activity. Is that pain or do you just notice that the veins look larger?  They should look larger as they are filled with more pressure and blood.  Dots in the urethra are quite normal - I've looked at so many!  I seriously hope that you can put this worry behind you as nothing you've told me either about the symptoms that you experience or the kind of encounter that you had cause me to worry that you might have herpes.

If you can't stop worrying about this, you could get the herpes western blot for more reassurance or you could repeat the IgG test now that the experience is so long ago.

Thank you Terrie. I would say usually immediately after sex or anytime there is blood flow to the region it becomes uncomfortable (achy testicles post ejaculation, burning urination usually immediately after sex that subsides very quickly). I have had mild burning during urination the last day or so which is lasted longer than normal. When I inspected my urethra, I noticed what looked to be small purple dot inside my urethra and looks very similar to Telangiecstasia.  I have never had any water filled blisters that have scabbed or anything like that, but I do know that herpes can take on various forms and atypical presentations. In the absence of lesions, would burning urination with herpes present itself as very severe and painful?  Sorry for all the questions but was a bit alarmed when I had uncomfortable urination and dots in the urethra.  To me it seems like perhaps (as I have been very stressed) that there is some vascular issue due to the problem being made worse when blood flows to the region.

In my experience, those who have herpes lesions inside the urethra have much pain with urination, yes.  Acid urine passing over open lesions in the urethra is no fun at all!
From what you've told me here, it doesn't sound like herpes but you can only really know if you have herpes if you have a reliable antibody test.
