[Question #8609] Herpes cut on finger
|
Hello, Ive been kind of nervous I recently cut my finger with the lock of a restroom in a gas station. What is the probability of me catching an infection like Herpes because of this? If someone had genital herpes didn’t wash their hands and touched the lock before me would it increase the risk?

I am pleased to tell you that the experience you had at the restroom presents zero risk of acquiring herpes. The virus can't live on things like locks. The virus needs warmth and moisture and human cells to live and locks provide none of that. I'm glad that you reached out to ask your question rather than continuing to worry about this.

Is it the same for HIV ? If there was fresh virus particles on the door knob could I be infected with that? I read that HIV can’t infect out of the body on a surface, is that correct?

It is the same thing with HIV. This is not a method of transmission.
