[Question #8650] HIV risk and test clarity.

Hello, I have had a supposedly exposure, where I went to the spa and lady given me body to body massage.
She was completely naked and I was wearing disposable boxer and put a condom to avoid any anxiety later, but after some time while she was rubbing herself over my penis, she removed my condom and rubber my penis on her vagina and later hand job(she "oouched" a bit afterwards while sanitizing her hands..I asked so she said she had a cut with beer bottle .
My questions are :
1. Brief contact of penis via very thin paper type brief (uncircumcised penis) with vaginal fluid is posing any risk for HIV ? I guess It would be theoretical if any there, still would like your opinion.
2. I've read Dr. Hook's thread where he categorically mention HIV-2 isn't consideration if your partner isn't from West Africa or India, well Sir, I am from India and that lady is also from India. So if I have had 4th gen Hiv ag/ab test at 4,5,6 weeks all negative....but then again getting doubts about HIV-2 ( since for HIV-2 4th and 3rd gen is same )
So did 3rd gen lab based HIV Test on 54th day . Negative
And 4th gen again at 55th day (approx 8 weeks) . Negative

Is this 100% conclusive ?

Can I move on without any assumption or worry about risk possibility because tests dominates everything. Are my tests conclusive for HIV1/2 BOTH ?

Welcome to the forum. I'm happy to help.

I think you meant to say this was "a supposedly *low risk* exposure. At least I hope that's what you meant, because it is true. This was absolutely a zero risk event in regard to HIV. To your specific questions:

1) Even without the paper shorts, there would have been no risk for HIV -- even if your partner was infected, which she probably was not anyway.

2) For the reasons you state yourself, the chance your partner has HIV is nil, or close to it; and no risk even if she ddid. And your negative test results are proof you didn't catch HIV, either HIV1 or HIV2.

IN other words, the answers are yes:  your test results are 100% conclusive for both HIV1 and 2 and you can "move on without any assumption or worry".

I hope these comments are helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.

Yes you're right with the reference.
Sir I got your advice and it's very reassuring. Thank you so much....just a few clarification to wind up the doubts and awareness.
Just answer these questions:

1. Does 8 weeks 3rd gen lab test is as reliable as 6 weeks 4th gen ag/ab test... ?
2. Considering she was infact infected, what I actually mean is keeping aside the nature of my exposure... After 55/56 days I can be sure that my negative results of 3rd gen tests are 100% conclusive for both HIV 1 and HIV 2 ??
3. Can you check me here ?
4th gen ag/ab window period -6 weeks.
And 3rd generation only antibodies lab test window period - 8 weeks .
4 . If someone could not get 4th gen tests available, because in India its available only at larger cities, would you consider his/her 3rd gen Hiv lab test conclusive at 8 weeks ? Does he/she need further tests ?

1-3) Yes:  6 weeks for the AgAb (4th generation) tests and 8 weeks for the latest (3rd generation) antibody tests. Therefore your negative results at 7 weeks are conclusive for both HIV1 and 2.

4) Yes, the tests are equally conclusive in India as anywhere else.

Thankyou so much...one day short to 8 weeks i.e 55 days can be considered as 8 weeks and hence conclusive no?
Just a clarification as you wrote my test at 7 weeks.
Or did you mean 49 to 55 days is considered as 7 weeks ?

After writing down I feel now that it is stupid question yet final reply would be appreciated .

Sorry for my 7 week error. Of course 8 weeks.

The data on time to positive test results are not very precise. One day undoubtedly makes no difference:  the test unfounyrfly is equally valid at 55 as 56 days.

That completes the two follow-up exchanges included with each question and so ends this thread. I hope the discussion has been helpful. In future, you need be concerned about such events in the future only if they include your penis entering a partner's vagina, rectum or mouth. Otherwise no risk for HIV.

Best wishes and stay safe (as you apparently have been!)
