[Question #8676] Covid antigen test
|
Good afternoon,
I have a question about a hiv antibody test that i took yesterday at my doctor. The exposure took place 3.5 months ago. The hiv test was negative. I also took a covid antigen test the same Day (no symptoms, just wanted to be sure). The covid antigen test was positive. Does this affect my negative hiv test?
Have a nice day,
Ann

Welcome to our Forum and thanks for your question. I'll be glad to comment
Your results are entirely reliable. HIV antibody tests are completely conclusive at any time more than 8 weeks following an exposure. COVID infections have been associated with occasional falsely positive tests but NOT with false negatives. You can have complete confidence in you test results and there is no need for further testing related to your exposure 3.5 months ago.
I hope this information is helpful. EWH

Hello and thank you for your reply.
I just checked my bill and it turns out that they used a covid pcr test instead of an covid antigen test. The Risk encounter i had for covid was about ten days before my hiv antibody test and my covid pcr test.
Does that affect my negative hiv antibody test results in any way?
Thank you and have a nice day,
Ann

No, a positive Covid PCR would still not impact your HIV test results. Please believe your test results, both for COVID-19 and for HIV. EWH---

Hello and thank you for your clear reply.
I van move on from this, knowing that i'm hiv negative no matter when my covid exposure was that led to my covid positive test. Am i correct?
Thanks so much for this service, have a nice day.

Yes, you are correct. The COVID-19 PCR is a test for the virus and in no way effects the performance of antibody (or antigen) tests for HIV. Be confident in your test results.
This will complete this thread. Take care, please don't worry. EWH
