[Question #8705] Oral/Gonorrhea
|
I have a full STI check every 6 months and just completed two weeks ago. The issue I have is about a week ago I performed unprotected oral with A person of unknown status. I also a few days later had kissing and frottage with another. I now have a sore throat for about 4 days. Of course now I’m concerned about possible gonorrhea in my throat. I do not want to necessarily test again as I just completed my 6 month check all clean. I realize I could just have a good old fashion sore throat but i have no other symptoms. Thoughts?

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question. I hope the comments I’m about to provide will help you to resolve your concerns.
Let’s first deal with the encounters you describe. Most people do not have STI’s and performance of oral sex on another person (a man I presume) is a relatively inefficient mechanism for transmission of STI’s. Further, the symptoms you describe are really not suggestive of oral gonorrhea or other STI’s. The majority of our a Gonorrhea, when acquired is asymptomatic.
As for kissing and frottage, these are no risk events and not a concern.
Your exposure history and symptomatic sore throat suggest that this is more likely a plain old every day, non-STI viral sore throat. There’s not much else I can say to assure you that this is not gonorrhea and if you wish to be absolutely sure, I’m afraid you’ll need to test. Personally I would not bother.
I hope this perspective it’s helpful to you. EWH
