[Question #8747] Oraquick / Seroconversion symptoms

Good Morning,
I was hoping to ask for your professional opinion on my current state.
I completed PEP 2 weeks ago this past Monday. On Friday night, I experienced sore knees at night and needed to take Advil before bed. This subsided overnight. On Saturday night, I began experiencing a sore throat. This slowly got worse Sunday and yesterday it was pretty bad. It seems to have mellowed out slightly today. I have not had a fever. I did experience what looked like a heat rash the other night on my midsection, but that faded within 30 minutes or so. That has come and gone a couple times since the weekend, mostly at night. Does all of this sound like seroconversion? It started within 11-12 days post PEP.
I took an Oraquick test today and it was negative. My 4th gen ag/ab test was also negative last week (taken last Monday, 1 week post PEP). I don't have a follow-up blood test until another 6 weeks from now.
I fear that the worst case scenario is playing out and I have to wait a month to find out the outlook on the rest of my life.
I am fearful that I have ruined my (and therefore my wife's) life over a single stupid mistake/lapse of judgment.
How sensitive would Oraquick be to detecting a positive after a few days of symptoms, and more than 2 weeks post PEP? In your experience, when PEP is taken as directed, is failure common?
Thank you

It appears you are looking for my opinions and advice in addition to Dr. Hook's. We have worked together for 35 years and our judgments and recommendations on the forum never differ significantly from one another. I reviewed your two recent discussions with him and that is the case here as well. You ask nothing here that wasn't covered there. Further, because anxious persons are prone to interpret minor differences in wording as major differences in our advice, we avoid commenting on each others' threads unless asked to do so by the other.

Dr. Hook kept your other thread open for you to post your latest test result, and I'm sure he would be happy to comment if you do that. I will just add that HIV symptoms are caused not by HIV itself, but the immune response to the virus, which is reflected by antibody production. Therefore, it is not possible your symptoms are due to HIV in the presence of your negative HIV antibody test results.
