[Question #8797] Hiv risk ?

dear doctor

I had a relationship with the massage worker, which consisted of external rubbing and foreplay using a condom and using the finger to caress the anus while wearing gloves. I underwent a combo test on day 19 with a negative result, and the relationship was repeated with the same factor on day 44 of the first relationship.
The question is, is the relationship dangerous, should you prepare for a re-examination, knowing that I currently suffer from a sore throat and a severe cold.
I am a 40 year old married man
thank you

Welcome to our forum and thanks for your questions. I’m not sure while why the entirety of your description of the encounter and questions do not show up above in their entirety but I was able to read them using an alternate method.  Several comments:

1.  Most masseuses and even most commercial sex workers do not have HIV.
2.  HIV is more difficult to transmit than most people are aware. While I realize you did not have penetrative sexual contact with this person, however, even with unprotected penetrative sex, HIV infection is transmitted only one out of 1000 times, in other words,  chances of NOT being infected from a single unprotected sexual encounter with an infected person is 99.9%.
3.  Finally, and most importantly, Condom protected foreplay and external rubbing is a no risk event (Such exposures are also no risk even when condoms are not worn. Penetrative sex must occur for transmission of HIV to occur). Similarly masturbation of a partner with or without the protection of a glove, is also a no risk event for acquisition of HIV.
4.  In addition, HIV testing using combination HIV antigen/antibody tests provide conclusive results of the presence or absence of infection at all times more than six weeks 42 days after exposure. That’s your 44 days test results also prove that you were not infected.

You can be entirely confident that you were not infected by HIV through the exposures you describe. No further testing is needed. EWH

dear doctor I would like to clarify some things that seem not clear to you. I did the test on day 19 of the first relationship and it was negative. We did the relationship again after 44 days of the second relationship. According to your response, the relationship is not considered dangerous at all, and I do not need another examination, as the rate of transmission of infection is very low. I hope my question is clear to you now. I thank you for your efforts to understand what I wrote. Thank you

Thank you for your follow up questions. I assumed all of the information you have provided once again. There is no change in my evaluation or my assessment. This was a no risk event and there is no need for testing.

If your anxiety requires you to test, I urge you to wait until six weeks following the second (44 day) event to test as results of that time will be conclusive.

I am confident that your test results will show that you are not infected by the no risk activities that you described.

Please don’t worry!. EWH
