[Question #8841] Positive Hepatitis A result

Hello doctors,
I seem to have tested positive for Hepatitis A. The result was positive but the range/bits was negative. Please tell me what this means and the odds that a sexual encounter causes this. Thank you

Could you please provide additional information on what your test results show and your health. Are you sick? Was this a test for antibodies? Hepatitis A is transmitted by ingestion of the virus. Was here an exposure of concern? It is sexually transmitted through direct or indirect oral-anal contact.
Many persons have been vaccinated against both hepatitis A and B and thus have positive antibody tests. In this situation a positive test is simply an indicator that you were vaccinated.
I'll be happy to comment further but need more information of the sort mentioned above. EWH

It was a Hep A Ab, IgM
Hep A Ab, IgM test, there was a abnormal flag with a positive result with a negative range/units and 01 Lab,
I was slightly concerned about a an event that happens on a March 6th,
I got sooo drunk and went to a strip club and I was I had a dance and they pull down my pants a bit probably exposing most of not all of the private are, they spit on my pubic area but I don’t think any spit got on my actual penis, later on I discovered this person was a man and was very upset, before this they briefly rubbed my penis and touched my butt, my partner will want to get rid of me, is there any other way I could have gotten this. Thank you for your time.
I am very ashamed and don’t know what my next step is,
I never touched them but later I definitely touched my butt when I used that bathroom, please let me know if you think I aquifers hep a from this terrible decision,

Thanks for your additional responses. Noting that you responded a total of six times in relatively short order suggest to me that your level of anxiety is high. It should not be. The encounter you have described is virtually no risk for acquisition of sexually acquired hepatitis A which is most commonly acquired through ingestion of contaminated food. I find myself wondering why you were tested at all for this infection.
In addition, the fact that you feel healthy at the present time suggest that you do not have acute hepatitis A. IgM blood tests are notoriously inaccurate and have relatively high rates of false positivity. Your risk of infection is very low and perhaps negligible.
I would not be worried about risk of transmission to your regular sexual partner. I would suggest that in 2 to 3 weeks you repeat your test. If, at that time, your IgG test for hepatitis A is negative, you can be confident that the result that has created these concerns is falsely positive. Sorry I can’t provide a more immediate answer. Hello Doctor, I tested again yesterday for Hep A and I got the same result, flagged positive result and negative for the range
Please tell me if you think I’m positive for real and if there’s any way to find out 100%
Please let me know if it is dangerous for my partner to get pregnant because of the possible Hep A , I tried to attacch the result but was unable to.
Once again it was a Hep A Ab, IgM
Test from labcorp,
Please tell me what I should do next, hand how do you think I got this. Thank you

Sorry one last thing I think I’m a little confused as how Hep A spreads, is it just by getting infected poop in your mouth or is there other ways, Thank you

Thanks for the additional information. As I indicated earlier, a positive hepatitis a IgM antibody test can be indicative of a recently acquired infection, an infection which had been acquired and resolved within the past six months, or a false positive test. Most typically, in infected persons, within 10 to 14 days following the appearance of IgM antibodies, IgG antibodies appear. The fact that it has been more than two weeks since your initial positive test and no IgG antibodies were detected suggests that it is more likely than not that you’re IGM hepatitis A antibody test is falsely positive and does not indicate a true infection.
Hepatitis A is not transmitted sexually. Thus while you are probably not infected, there would be no reason to be concerned about transmission of hepatitis A to your sex partner if you were infected.
In summary, I suspect that your test represents a falsely positive test and not a true infection. Please don’t worry.
Is this is my third response to your questions, this will complete this thread Which will be closed shortly without further replies. Again, please don’t worry. EWH
