[Question #8864] Genital Warts Spread Prevention
38 months ago
|
Hello again- I previously inquired about OTC treatment of a GW on my butt cheek, and have reached out to my doctor's office for a cryo session. This morning I found another in the upper thigh area. In regards to spread prevention:
1-how likely am I to spread warts while towel drying, currently I cautiously using one side for front and one side for back (currently GWs only on backside)
2-how safe is reusing towels if the towel has air dried? I have a trip planned where I will be in an airbnb, so towels will be limited and may need to pack more if reuse is "high risk" for spread.

Welcome back to the forum. On this occasion I happen to pick up your question and will be replying. And preparing to reply, I reviewed your earlier interaction with Dr. Handsfield and agree with all that he said. I’m surprised to hear of a new wart on your upper thigh. Do you think you just missed it in the past or is this a new lesion. It would be most unusual for a new wart to appear so quickly, raising questions as to whether this is a wart or perhaps something else. Furthermore, this is a most unusual location for a genital wart. I realize that you were shaken by the wart diagnosis from your last diagnosis. I would urge you not to manipulate this one and have the diagnosis verified by a trained clinician. Irrespective, in response to your questions:
1. While perhaps theoretically possible to spread warts by transferring them on a towel, it would be very, very unusual. I doubt that the lesion on your thigh, if a wart, was spread by the use of a towel.
2. I would not be concerned in the least about reusing towels.
Hope this helps. EWH

Hello-thanks for the reply. It's funny you say that the location seems odd (the upper thigh), the doctor diagnosed as GW visually with a microscope, while I trust her, I do wonder about the possibility this is molluscum contagiosum, especially since I never got the cauliflower appearance. Currently all lesions have been on my backside, is there anything (other than not shave and wash hands) to avoid the spread to the front? Also, my second shot is in 2 weeks and hopefully I can convince my husband to get one too.

Thanks for the additional information. The follow up information you provide is helpful and again makes me wonder whether the initial lesion was a wart or not. Both genital warts and molluscum are treated similarly and the backside and upper thigh are likewise are sites where folliculitis is common. EWH ---
