[Question #8867] HSV 1/2

I got blood test for STD; I did not tell the examiner the medication I use. So, I have been using since last year Evocapill, finasteride, Testosterone and Minoxidil for Hair Transplant, which each one contains Biotin. I had checked two times last year which I was negative, so I thought that maybe Biotin may affect the result and I suspect that this is False positive. So, what do I do? It says HSV1 >5.00 IgG, HSV2 >1.20 IgG.

And this note: This assay has not been specifically validated by the manufacturer for use in pediatric patients

Thank you

I think that your HSV 1 is a true positive, but the HSV 2 is likely a false positive but you need a confirmatory test like the herpes western blot to find out for sure.  Also, I doubt that there is a ">" sign in front of the 1.20.  It is usual for the HSV 1 to have the sign.  What lab did the testing?

Right, that's what I thought.  So your index value for HSV 2 is 1.20 and with that index value, there is a 90% chance that this is a false positive.  Per the CDC recommendations, you need a confirmatory test and the best is the herpes western blot.

so how are the chances that biotin interference?

The labs have told us that Biotin doesn't interfere with this particular assay but I can't promise anything here about that, I'm afraid.

You can work with your own provider and the University of Washington to get this test or you can work with me at westoverheights.com.  But please - don't accept this result as real just yet.
