Hi my question is for Dr Handsfield. I asked about a handjob on a different forum yesterday and was grateful for your response but had a follow up.

I had a handjob in a massage parlour. A few days later my pubic area was itchy and so was my belly button. Sometimes i itchy between my scrotum and anus. 6-7 weeks later i got painless bumps in my pubic region. Some of the spots did have whiteheads. I sometimes get itchy under arms and my ears are ringing. I am very anxious and have been for the last few months. Is there any chance i could send a picture of my bumps from November?

Is it a bad idea to do an IGG test? I have read in the absence if systems its not good to test for herpes. Why is this? Is it a bad idea even if I have symptoms says 6 months ago?

I answer the herpes questions on this forum.  There is no risk of acquiring herpes from someone masturbating you.  None.  There are some false positives on the IgG herpes antibody test and if you have no risky sexual encounters, which yours is not, there is no need to do a herpes antibody test at all.  if you are concerned about previous sexual encounters that did involve some sort of genital to genital contact, you could do the IgG test if you have symptoms that concern you.  You should just be aware that there are some false positives on this test and a confirmatory test might be necessary to clarify the results.

Thanks i sent if a teat but maybe this was a bad idea. The reason i did is because i have an itch when i wake up between my anus and scrotum but its not that bad but cant really think what else it could be. I also get itchy ears. I havent had sex for around 4 years and this was protected. I doubt w primary outbreak would show up now ?

Yes, i have had patients do the confirmatory test, the herpes western blot, drawn and blood sent to the University of Washington, for the herpes western blot. it is not available in the UK.  But please don't do it because you are worried about the handjob!  Many things could cause itching in the area  you describe for men, a fungal infection being the most common.  you could try an over the counter antifungal cream or powder just to see if that helps.

Thanks - last question. If it does come back positive it may be a false positive? Shall i therefore take another igg test ? What is the likelihood of two false positives

If the IgG test comes back with an index value (a number) of below 3.5, you will need a confirmatory test.  Even if it's twice.  People who get false positives, get them repeatedly, in my experience.
