[Question #898] HSV 2 From Protected Exposure

To whom it may concern,

Last night I had unprotected oral sex and protected intercourse with a girl I met online.  The intercourse lasted 10 seconds (Not that long at all). I'm not really concerned with Gonorrhea, Syphilis, HIV and Chlamydia. I already have oral herpes, so my concern is HSV2.  I always practice safe sex and I have been tested before for all STD's and everything is negative except for oral herpes.  What are the chances of acquiring HSV2 from that exposure?

Thanks for you help,

I think the chances of acquiring HSV 2 from 10 seconds of protected intercourse is about as close to zero as one can possibly get.  Honestly.  And I don't think testing after this contact will be necessary to rule out HSV 2.  I'm assuming you have been tested for HSV 2 in the past, from what you said in your post, yes?

Hi Terri,

Thank you for your response. Yes, I have been tested for HSV2 in the past and been negative. This was my first sexual encounter since that test. Should I be in the look out for symptoms? (Just in Case) or you think that my exposure is way to low to even worry about.

Thank you very much,

I think you will be on the look out for symptoms, regardless of what I say, that's kind of human nature, and it's fine.  But I really do think this encounter is so low risk you can curb your worry, Michael.

Hello Terri,

I want to thank you for you expert advise. I will not waste my time looking for symptoms when I have an expert with 33 years of experience telling me not to worry about my exposure. Life is to short to worry!

Thank you very much and take care,

Michael
