[Question #8985] HSV 2 status
|
Good Morning, My partner of 18 years had an affair for approximately a year with a woman with hsv2. In December, I had equivocal results for hsv1 and low-positive for hsv2 (2.48). My ex had 2 negative IGG tests in January, which was over 3 months from his time of exposure. I had a follow-up IGG in May that was negative for hsv1 and 2. In addition, I recently had a hsv2 IGG with reflex inhibition. The first assay was at 1.51, but when reflex was completed, result suggested a false positive. I have never had symptoms of hsv 2 and my ex also denies symptoms. I know the Western Blot is the gold standard, but I am wondering if the body of evidence that I currently have is enough to move forward. Wondering about my status has created a great deal of stress for me and would like to be able to close the door on this issue! Thank you for your guidance and suggestions!

I think the body of evidence is probably adequate to indicate that you don't have HSV 2.
Our problems with the IgG tests AND the reflex are false positives. That is true for both LabCorp and Quest tests. But it appears that your reflex on the low positive is negative.
Combine that with your husband's negative IgG result and there is a high degree of certainty that you don't have HSV 2.

Thank you very much. My doctor indicated this as well, but I felt as though I needed this confirmation from an expert! I appreciate that you have this service available.
