[Question #8988] Unprotected Oral Sex Concern
37 months ago
|
3 days back I had an enco
unter with woman whom I met through social media.
We engaged in Kissing, Unprotected Oral sex (both giving and receiving), and protected vaginal sex. Also to mention I am getting treated for Balanitis infection for my penis for the past few months and wanted to assess if there were any potential risks involved in this encounter especially with Kissing and Unprotected Oral Sex.
Would be keen to get your advice on this matter.

Welcome to our forum and thanks for your question. I’ll be glad to comment. This was an overall very low risk encounter. Most people do not have STIs and even when they do most single encounters to not result in transmission.
There is no risk for acquisition of STIs including HIV from kissing.
Among penetrative sexual encounters, oral sex, either giving or receiving is amongst the lowest risk activities. There are no proven cases of HIV acquired from receipt of oral sex. There are a very, very small number of cases of HIV which have been acquired as a result of cunnilingus on an infected, untreated woman but these are extraordinarily rare.
In terms of receipt of oral sex there is a small risk of acquiring gonorrhea and an even smaller risk of acquiring chlamydia but these are quite low. The risk of acquiring these same STI’s from performance of cunnilingus is likewise very, very low. The fact that you have and/or are being treated for balanitis does not change these risks and any meaningful way.
If you are concerned, the most important tests for you to pursue are urine test for gonorrhea and chlamydia and a throat swab for gonorrhea. Should you choose to test, I anticipate the test to prove that you were not infected. I hope this information is helpful to you. This was a very low risk encounter. EWH

Thanks Dr Hook much appreciated.
Just thought to mention one more query here, Balanitis around 2 weeks back had caused a small tear in foreskin while pulling back which resulted in some small traces of blood coming out from tip of the foreskin, although it seem to be on its way to recover during these 2 weeks.
Considering this instance should there still be any cause of worry in terms of unprotected oral sex from your perspective ?

Thanks Dr Hook.
Maybe I am overthinking but for the past 2 days (4days after the encounter) I got some tiredness, fatigue kind of feeling along with some sore throat. Could this be anything related to this encounter or I would be overthinking more about this ?
Thanks in advance.

My suspicion is that you are overthinking this. Oral STIs are typically asymptomatic and this is too early for HIV to have caused symptoms.
Of course any time one kisses another person there is a modest risl of acquiring a sore throat or a non-STI viral infection
I would not worry.
As you know, we provide up to three responses to each client's questions. This is my 3rd response. Thus this thread will be closed shortly without further responses. Take care and please don't worry. EWH
