[Question #9021] Got scared

Hi doctors,
Thank you for providing this service. I just couldn't find anything like this in my country.
Info: i'm female and had an unprotected sexual encounter in september 2019. I got tested for hiv in May 2021 with a hiv antibody-only test. The result was negative. I did have a high level of crp and high levels of leukocytes, absolute neutrophils and trombocyts. My doctor asked if i was sick, I was not sick that i know of. So my hiv antibody-only test took place in 2021, and just now i'm starting to get worried that maybe i had the SARS-CoV-2/covid19 virus, without symptoms or with very minor symptoms, at the time i got tested for hiv with a hiv antibody-only test. I did not get tested for covid at my appointment for my hiv test.
So my question is: can i be absolutely sure that i don't have hiv, even if i had a SARS-CoV-2/covid19 infection, without symptoms or with very minor symptoms, at the time of testing for hiv with a hiv antibody-only test?

Just to add a to some extra information: in May 2021 i had not received any covid-19 vaccination. My first covid-19 vaccination was in July 2021. I also don't remember which variant of SARS-CoV-2/covid-19 was the most common variant back then.

Welcome to the Forum and thanks for your question. I'll be glad to comment. You can be confident of your test results. Your HIV antibody test taken in May was taken at a time when the results are conclusive and there are no scientific data to suggest that COVID-19 or vaccination for COVID interferes in any way with antibody tests for HIV. Be confident of your results. EWH---

Okay thank you doctor Hook.
I know i'm repeating myself but i just want to ask for confirmation. Can i be entirely sure that i don't have hiv, even if i had a SARS-CoV-2/covid-19 infection at the time i had my hiv antibody-only test? Can i be sure that i don't have to do another hiv antibody-only test? I really don't want to do another one, i was so stressed out the last time.

Okay thank you doctor Hook.
Just want to make some corrections:
Can i be entirely sure that i don't have hiv, even if i had a SARS-CoV-2/covid-19 infection (that i didn't know about, without symptoms or with very minor symptoms) at the time i had my hiv antibody-only test? Can i be sure that i don't have to do another hiv antibody-only test? I really don't want to do another one, i was so stressed out the last time.

This question is repetitive. Asking the same question again will not change the answer. Your antibody only test results are entirely conclusive and do not need to be repeated.
I worry that you might have been searching for information on the internet. If that is the case, please don't do that- it will mislead you more often than it will provide accurate information. Much of what is found there is out of date, taken out of context, or just plain wrong. Please stay off the internet and believe your test results. EWH

Hello dr Hook,
You are absolutely right. I shouldnt have been looking on the internet, it only causes me more anxiety.
Just to be clear, i only had one hiv antibody-only test (i thought of this since you spoke of 'test resultS are conclusive'). I hope i was clear enough about that in my first post. I hope that this does not change your assessment. Can i be entirely sure that i don't have hiv? I really don't want to get another hiv antibody test, as i mentioned before.
Thank you very much for your patience with me.

Final response. We provide up to three responses to each client's questions. With this 3rd response the thread will be completed and the thread will be closed a little later today.
Your 1rst post was clear. Your HIV antibody test was conclusive and need not be repeated in relationship to the 2019 encounter you described. I urge you to believe your test results.
Take care. EWH
