[Question #9023] Herpes lesion on penis shaft?

Hi Terri,
I have genital HSV-2 and currently take a gram of Valtrex for suppression. I recently entered into a new relationship with a healthcare worker but she’s afraid of STDs. I told her I have HSV-2 long before we had sex. She overcame it bc she really likes me.

So, after I had sex with her a few times in one night with a condom (we always use it) I noticed a round spot in the middle of my shaft of my penis. It’s round looks pink or red with like a pin hole in the center.

It’s not discharging anything. It’s just one spot. It’s guess it’s like a mm wide. I never noticed the water blisters or anything. It doesn’t hurt or sting. It seems to far up to be a hair follicle.

In the past I usually get 2-3 water blister looking things up farther just underneath my penis head. Then they turn into an ulcer type thing. This is in a slightly different spot half way down but it’s still covered by the condom.

She did put lube on her hand and touched my penis with her hand and since I didn’t notice at that time, her hand probably came into contact with it.

1) Does it sound like HSV-2 to you?
2) if it is, is she at high risk for contracting it?

She says she has sensitive skin and while I told her about HSV-2 but the reality of actually getting it might be 2 different things. Thank you again for your time

It is more of an oval/round shape. Looks red/pink on the outside with a red center. The whole thing is slightly raised. It’s about 2mm in circumference. It’s not oozing as I put rubbing alcohol on it and it didn’t sting

it really isn't possible for me to say if that sounds like herpes or not.  It's a good thing that alcohol doesn't sting and that you didn't notice any water blisters there.  it sounds like it could be an early  lesion though I just can't say for sure.  It's good that you are using condoms with every intercourse - that reduces the risk of infected her by 96%.  The oral sex could present a small risk if it was unprotected - was it?  Has anything happened to the spot since you last wrote?

Yes the oral sex was unprotected but I did notice her teeth against my shaft. (She touched it with her hand with lube and later gave me oral sex before I noticed it)

Today being Monday and day 3, it looks the same as when I wrote.

I did go to my primary care DR today and he said it didn’t look like herpes considering it’s round and has like a pin hole opening in the center. And the fact it was only one and I never saw the clear water blisters.  He really took time to look at it and said it almost looks like an insect bite. Lol

Usually with me, I notice the clear water blisters first and always have around 2-3.  In the past, I have had condom vaginal sex with blisters before and it’s painful this time it wasn’t painful.

I’m surprised I didn’t notice it Friday as I always check myself over.

Today is Wednesday and it still looks the same.

My sexual history is I haven’t had sex since November until my current partner. I did kiss someone in April and I’ve been tested for HIV and Syphilis 50 days after that kiss. Both were negative. I thought maybe it’s that but I guess the test would rule that out? And you can’t get it from casual contact.

Ok now it’s day 6, and now the middle looks a bit wider but it looks like it’s healing. The middle looks darker than the outside. Still not open or snything. Just one spot. I wouldn’t say it’s scabbing or crusting. The outside of it is still circle or round shaped but not as pronounced.
I was HIV and Syphilis tested and it was negative.
2 DRs saw it and both didn’t think herpes. One thought it resembled an insect bite and the other thought a GW forming.

Sorry, we've been out of internet range for a few days.  so the doctor declined to do any testing of the lesion at all?  Neither one?
Has your current partner been tested for HSV , do you know?  Have they reported any oral lesions at all?
You know your physical history with HSV 2 better than anyone.  If this sounds atypical for herpes for you, then it probably isn't it.  Especially with two clinicians looking at it and saying it doesn't look like herpes.
I know you are probably worried about transmitting this to her mouth, but HSV 2 doesn't like the mouth very much at all and HSV 2 infection rarely shows up there.  I think it is time to bring a halt to your worries.
