[Question #9027] Herpes and tanning beds

|
Has there been any cases where someone has caught hsv2 from a tanning bed? Google has been giving very unclear answers due to quoting doctors saying it’s possible and others saying it’s not.
Thanks in advanced!

Not that I know of, but I'm sure if you look on the internet you will find one.
Even if someone had an outbreak on their buttocks and lay on a tanning bed while it was there, the skin of your buttocks is too thick for virus to penetrate.
There is a dermatologist who says you can get herpes from a tanning bed online, but I think when people have buttocks lesions, they think that is where the infection originated, but it originates genitally and decides to follow a different nerve and show up on the buttocks. Sometimes I think clinicians don't understand all of that.

“Thank you doctor, so if the outbreaks are happening genitally is it possible that the tanning bed is original place of transmission, or is hsv2 only ever transmitted from direct skin to skin contact?

No, if the outbreaks are genital, they are not from a tanning bed. HSV 2 is transmitted through direct skin to skin contact.
