[Question #9042] Follow Up Clarification

Sorry doctor it’s just you said 13.5 days RNA has “little or no difference” to a full 14 days rna test and missed doses “almost certainly” probably have no effect on PEP efficacy. I just wanted to know that if that little difference and almost would affect your earlier statement “that I have no chance of being infected” before I clarified both topics.
Also that the man refused to test and has had other sexual encounters since his last test so there is actually no evidence he’s negative as you suggested.
With all of those three things considered I want to know if you think I still have no chance of being infected?
Also if I am to test negative at 41 days or 42, would you recommend further testing or moving on? Thank you.

Welcome back to the Forum although I'm sorry you felt the need. On this occasion I happened to pick up your new question so you will get my opinion in addition to the replies you already heard from Dr. Handsfield. In preparing to answer your question I reviewed your earlier interaction with Dr. Handsfield and I agree with everything that Dr. Handsfield said. I found your new question repetitive with answers to each of your questions being found in Dr. Handsfield's earlier responses.
Neither of us have ever seen or heard of a person with a negative HIV RNA PCR test at any time more than 12 days following an exposure who went on to test positive. The recommendation for further testing at 42 days (and there is NO difference between the results at 41 and 42 days) is to provide additional assurance and as it is a recommendation by other experts, we are supportive of the recommendation while also being confident that the PCR result you report is virtually certain to be conclusive. After your test at 41 or 42 days yields negative results (which I am confident it will), I see no medical or scientific reason for additional testing.
I hope you can move forward. EWH

Thank you and this takes into consideration that I took PEP as well? And the RNA test was 13.5 days post pep?
With those two in consideration I will still be expected to test negative with ag/ab test?
Thank you and I will be getting tested tomorrow at 41 days with 12 hours ag/ab test. Hopefully test will be negative and I can move on

Correct, it does take into consideration the factors that you mention, and that you had mentioned before.
Repeating the question will not change the answers. I am confident that your test will show that you were not involved. EWH

As you predicted my 41 day test came back negative.
Can I in good conscious put this incident behind me with a negative 13 day RNA and 41 day AG/Ab test both post completion of PEP? Including the two doses I missed?
I only ask because I do not plan on having another exposure for YEARS if possible. Therefore I won’t be regularly testing. I only ask if all testing in relation to this exposure is conclusive and if I can stop here, if you recommend further testing to be completely conclusive please let me know. Thank you.

Yes, the combination of results you have provides conclusive proof that you did not acquire HIV. There is no need for further testing related to the exposure you described.
As this is my 3rd response to your questions, this thread will be closed shortly. Take care. EWH
