Extremely anxious, had unprotected sex with a swinger couple only vaginal And oral with the lady But her partner had vaginal And oral with her Also ( they told me after that they Both clean And regular tested), did not have Any direct sexual contact with him as we were Both heterosexuals, had a full std checkup And tests at sex clinic on the 13th day after exposure- all negative, went back again on the 28th day on private Lab for Hiv 1/2 ABS/p24 Ag test , Syphilis IGg/IGM by EIA, All the Hepatitis screen, everything negative again. Been reading alot of mix opinions on testing, planning to test again At 45 days for HIV , What chances you think my first 2 hiv tests will turn positive on 45 days and What test will you recomend me to Take to be a final one in case will be again negative.

Welcome to our firm. Thanks for your question. I Happened to be on the side at the time you were question arrived and so you were receiving your response far more quickly than this typical. Any follow up questions may take longer to receive a response. I’ll be glad to comment.
You are almost certainly in the clear following the encounter you described. Many swingers do test regularly and your test results appear to bear out their statements that they were not infected. As I understand your message, it appears that you were partners rather than you have been tested since the encounter. Is that correct? If so,The fact that their tests in the interval since your encounter were negative pretty much rules out the possibility that you were exposed to any STI including HIV. HIV test results on day 28 following an encounter are more than 98% conclusive and only on very, very rare occasions do they become positive in the interval between day 28 and day 42. Any HIV antigen/antibody test taken more than 42 days after an encounter is conclusive and need not be repeated.
Personally, giving your partner’s test results, I would not worry further. EWH

Hello DR., thank you for your Prompt answer. Is not them who Got tested. Is actually me who had all Those tests, should I Take another test At 45 days? Will another HIV Duo Ag/AB negative test At 45 days rule out hiv forward from this encounter? I mention that I am married And this was a Very stupid mistake from me And I am terified that I ruined my life, can’t stop thinking of it , I had a white tongue on the third week after encounter But my Doctor told me that was most probably because of an antibiotic course that I took before for H. pylori bacteria. Have you ever seen anyone turning positive after 2 consecutive negative HIV duo tests At 13 days And 28 days?

Thank you for the clarification. Given the fact that the test you reported were your room, it is, if anything less likely that you acquired any STI, including HIV from the encounter you described. This I mentioned above, NHIV tested anytime more than 45 days following the encounter will absolutely inconclusively eliminate the possibility that you acquire HIV. I would discount and not worry about the white tongue, just as your doctor has already recommended. EWH ---

Thank you once more for quick reply.
So in your opinion should I still go for the 45 day duo Hiv test , tomorrow it will be 42 days from the encounter , So I can potentially book it for NexT week?
Or the one At 13 days combined the one At 28 the days should already be conclusive enough and should I not worry anymore about this?
I know Googling is not helping But been doing that since I have been exposed and loads of things are in my mind as I seen many opinions that only After 3 or Even 6 months you CNA be sure you did not catch HIV.

Final response. As I mentioned before, at 28 days more than 98% of recently acquired HIV infections will be detected by testing. To be 100% sure, the official recommendation is that testing must be performed at more than six weeks. I am confident that your risk of infection is quite low but if you want to be entirely conclusive you should retest at 42 days. This is a personal choice. EWH ---
