[Question #9059] My herpes test results always come back negative for hsv 1 and hsv2

My herpes test results always come back negative for hsv 1 and hsv2. It's a blood test. My doctor doesn't understand the result.
He says i don't have herpes. But I have herpes symptoms. I had the initial lesion with sticky clear wetness. I got my symptoms after being with a girl friend who had it. I had the one initial outbreak and then started valtrex. I haven't had another outbreak with my daily dose of valtrex, but I often have penial sensitivity like a pin prick and focused soreness. I use lidocane on these occasions. My question is: Do I indeed have herpes and the test is not picking it up? I've had about 5-6 blood tests over my 2 years. my latest result came back today. Both negative for 1 and 2 types. Is there another std that I could have with similar herpes symptoms. I'd love to figure out what I actually have. Please help!

I don't know what testing you had done - IgM or IgG? Do you know
If you started taking daily suppressive therapy immediately after what you believe to have been a new infection, it could be influencing the antibody test that you appear to have done.
I can't tell you have HSV 1 or HSV 2 with quite a bit more information.
It may require you coming off antiviral medication to get a more accurate result on your antibody test.
Was any swab testing done of the lesions that you had?
