Hello Doctor

I went to do an hiv 4th gen test , the lab have  tow products for the test  Architect HIV Ag/Ab, Abbott and  the second type Elecsys HIV Combi ag/ab PT roche.
I was confused between them.
witch one should I choose  for my test ? and are both products reliable and with the same sensitivity ?

Thank you

Welcome to the Forum and thanks for your question.  Both of the tests that you describe are 4th generation, combination HIV antigen/antibody tests which will provide conclusive HIV results at any time more than 4 weeks following an exposure.  Both tests are highly reliable and have equivalent sensitivity/specificity.  Either test will provide reliable results.

Hope this helps.  EWH

Hello Doctor
Thank you for the reply

I just did the Architect HIV Ag/Ab, Abbott test and waiting for my result.

It’s now 3 months (13weeks )following exposure.

If i got negative results it’s conclusive I don’t need to repeat the test after 6 months ? The result can’t change ?

I did drink water before the test by 2 hours but i was fasting from food for like 6hours

Test results for fourth generation HIV tests including the Abbott architect test provide entirely conclusive results at any time more than six weeks following and exposure. Your three month results will be reliable and there is no need for additional testing at six months. You can believe your test results when you receive them.  The result will not change.

The fact that you were drinking water prior to the test will also in no way affect the test. You can have confidence in your test results. EWH

Doctor I received my result it’s negative.

Is that 4th gen result enough alone ? Or should  i have hiv pcr test as well ? For conclusive and conformity

There is no need for a PCR test. Your forth generation test is conclusive and proves that you do not have HIV. No need for continuing concern, no need for additional testing.

As you know, we provide up to three responses to each clients questions. This is my third response, therefore this thread will be closed shortly without further responses.

 Take care. EWH

Doctor  please if you allow me last thing please.

my type of exposure was body to body massage, and i rubbed my penis through her anal , the girl was naked totally but i was wearing only boxer and i had semen inside the boxer while rubbing.

Then i had now by 14 weeks a negative 4th gen result. Is my condition conclusive?

Thank you Doctor all the best
