[Question #9110] Early hiv symptoms

Hi there recently i was concerned about a potential damaged condom incident while i was with a csw dr hook said that i definitely would of noticed if it was damaged when the woman in question got of of me but as i said before i didn't see a massive tear but it did look that potentially her blood was underneath the condom.. I never really inspected it well i just let her take it of as i cleaned my hands with a wipe.. Anyway.. What i will say is 6 days after i developed a rash on my left palm of my hand that is prickly to touch things.. Dr hook told me that this wouldn't be a hiv rash as it was only on one palm.. However later that night i could see it & feel it on my other palm & also could feel it on the sole of my feet but it was very faint looking on my feet ( its nearly gone on my feet now but still on my hands).. Also yesterday & today ive noticed i have pain in the back of my neck pain in my knees, the odd random jab in my wrists & also a pain in my right calf muscle in my leg. As said before on my previous post my glands in neck are well up to ( but in the past they habe gone up if i was ever very stressed) I had diarrhea a couple of times since this incident ( on the 9th of this month) ive had no apitite ( hunger) & have lost half a stone in weight i do have fatigue ( but i have suffered with abit of fatigue in the past) but last night in my bed i was fast asleep when i was woken to shivers in my back & shoulder & because of this i found it really difficult to get back to sleep.. I also had a burning feel at the top of my back in between my shoulders. My legs at times feel week like jelly... Its strange because at the moment i don't feel any chills & my legs dont feel weak. I seem to get these waves were it just hits me & i feel awful.. Do hiv symptoms come & go abit? Would the rash that came up on my hands ( & slightly on my feet) appear as quick as 6 days after a possible hiv exposure? What other if any std symptoms may do this. I a

Welcome back, but you are continuing to overreact to an near zero risk exposure and to symptoms that cannot possibly be due to HIV.

Regardless of what you think you learned online, your symptoms are not typical for HIV. ARS symptoms cannot begin sooner than 7-10 days after exposure, and the rash is not at all suggestive of the rash of ARS. It is a big mistake to read symptoms of ARS, see a few that seem to match, and conclude that you might have HIV. The combination and pattern of certain symptoms are far more important than individual symptoms like you describe. Blood or vaginal fluids often get under the rim of a condom, and do not imply increased risk of HIV. That the condom did not break wide open is nearly 100% assurance you were completely protected. Female escorts (expensive sex workers by appointment) rarely have HIV, so it is unlikely your partner is infected anyway.
There are no other STIs that would cause the symptoms you describe. Aside from the rash(es), they sound mostly like normal body sensations or minor symptoms all humans experience from time to time, and usually are ignored but can be magnified by anxiety or stress. And no, HIV symptoms do not come and go.
As Dr. Hook advised, you do not need to wait on HIV testing, and I'm glad to see you are planning to test in a couple of days. The negative result, will not completely rule out the possibility of a new HIV infection, but a negative result WILL mean with 100% certainty that HIV/ARS is not causing your symptoms. Perhaps that will help you relax. You really are overreacting to a no risk situation! Finally, perhaps it will also reassure you to know that in the 15 years of this and our preceding forum at MedHelp, with thousands of questions from persons worried about having caught HIV, not one has turned up positive. You won't be the first. If and when that finally happens, it surely won't be from a trivially risky exposure like yours, but from a truly high risk situation, like unprotected anal with a known infected person.

Thank you dr handsfield for your reply i really do appreciate you & Dr Hooks replies to me. I'm not so much worried about fluids getting under the rim of the condom as that was obviously way down at the base of my shaft. What i do think about is the tip/top of the condom as i say it looked as though traces of blood were moving around underneath the condom on my penis head as i moved it with my thumb. I asked her immediately for wipes & cleaned my hands as i got abit on my hands & as i was busy cleaning my hands she removed the condom. I wish i had of inspected it more but i didn't notice like a big long split down it or the likes but the top of the condom was obviously flappy ( to leave room for semen) & i was thinking maybe there could of been a small tear in it which when she was moving up & down ( briefly under 2 mins) that might have allowed the blood inside then when she got of the tip obviously goes saggy/flappy which may of disguised the tear ( because i wasn't stretching it) As i say i have a test on Monday just to hopefully confirm that the symptoms I'm feeling are not early hiv symptoms. It was strange last night when i burst into shivers but today no shivers so far.. So I am glad to hear u say hiv symptoms wouldn't just come & go. If i hadn't of got this rash on my palms ect ect i wouldn't be nowhere near as concerned as i am.. I appreciate your response & will attend my appointment on Monday. Thanks

These comments do not change my opinions or advice. We don't recommend inspecting condoms after sex. If on removal it is obvious it didn't break wide open, no further evaluation is helpful.
I'll be happy to comment again after you have been tested on Monday, but won't have anything more to say until then.

Hi Dr Handsfield, just a quick update i got my bloods taken there but it'll be a few days before i hear back from the results. I don't mean to bother you or ask to many questions but i noticed you said in you're above post that the combination & pattern of symptoms are more relevant & important as apposed to individual symptoms. One pattern i have noticed over the last 3 nights is i seem to get worse at night in my bed & have actually been woken each of them nights feeling slightly raised temperature slightly sweaty i have a very slight sore throat coming on which again seems to come & go with dry mouth. During the day i get bouts of extreme fatigue that come on very fast & i have to go to bed i have noticed i feel like im going to vomit at times during the day to ( especially after i try to eat, i haven't ate hardly anything as im just not hungry) .. But then that can disappear & the fatigue can lift. The same goes for the pains I am getting in my knees & neck ( they can be there & maybe hours later not as bad or not even there) What I'm trying to say is if indeed these symptoms were to related to an early onset of hiv symptoms would the pattern I've described to you be consistent with that? or would the symptoms remain continous throughout out the day regardless if its day or night? Once again sorry to ask another question & i will only update this thread again when my results come back.
Thank you
Mac.

Hi Dr, i just was on the phone to the clinic & my results came back all clear! which was a relief & i feel the pressure has been lifted of me I'm very thankful. The test was done 13 days after the encounter with the lady ( csw) so as you say its not fully conclusive but as you say at least these symptoms I'm experiencing are not ars/hiv early symptoms. I Think its been a build up of the sheer fear & worry that has done this to me. In the past i had lyme disease & I've never been 100% since then even post lyme treatment & I've noticed if ever I'm really stressed my lyme symptoms ( including knee pain) ect can seem to blow up on me. Prior to the lyme i was fit as a fiddle with zero allergys or health probs but since then i do sometimes have abit of health probs ( including fatigue ect) & the last thing i needed in my life was another illness in the form of HIV. I will repeat the test again in 5 weeks time as the lady at the clinic told me & god willing all will be fine. Thank you & Dr Hook for answering my questions it's greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the follow-up. I'm very glad to hear of your negative HIV test result (but of course not surprised). You definitely can expect your next and final HIV test to remain negative. Also it is useful to hear of your past Lyme and that fatigue continues. Usually that problem ultimately clears up, so don't lose hope over it!
That concludes this thread. Thanks for the thanks; I'm very glad to have helped. Best wishes and stay safe.
