[Question #9130] Hiv pcr test accuracy
|
Dear Doctor
Regarding hiv pcr test. Is the test still accurate and reliable after 4 months of exposure. Because some theories says it will be less accurate about 3 months post exposure, because at 3 months the body would have made antibodies to fight Hiv so the pcr test will be less accurate.
1- will the pcr test still accurate and reliable after 4 months and can detect the infection ? Or it’s only accurate on the first few weeks post exposure?
2- after the body have made antibodies against hiv , still the pcr can detect the infection even after the appearance of the antibodies in the body ?? Or that will give a false negative result
That’s all
All the best

Call. Thanks for your questions. I’ll be glad to comment.
In the absence of effective therapy for HIV, once a person is infected, the PCR test would be positive and remain positive. Antibodies to HIV would not change the likelihood of positivity. Your negative test result at indicates that you were not infected.
At this point, I urge you to except your test results and to move forward without continuing concern. You do not have HIV! EWH

Dear Doctor
I would like to take your opinion and advise in my situation please.
I reached the form before 3 months. But now after 3 months I would like to have my status to live my life without concern specially that I’m worried about my situation.
First, the type of exposure i had was body to body massage with penis rubbing through her anus (anal) while she was totally naked , but i was wearing my boxer only ( underwear) and i had semen while rubbing.
1) What’s your opinion Based my type of exposure ?
2) I did 4th generation hiv test by 3 months it was negative is it conclusive 100% ?
3) I should test again after 6 months or the result at 3 months is enough alone it can’t change ?
Thats all sir
All the best

Thanks for the additional information on your exposure. As I said, test results from an exposure 40 days earlier are virtually conclusive. Regarding your specific questions:
1. Body to body rubbing, including non-penetrative penile rubbing is a no risk event with no risk for HIV.
2. A 4th generation test at 3 months provides conclusive results. They should be believed
3. There is no need for additional testing.
I hope my response will help you to move forward without continuing concern. EWH

We provide up to three responses to each client's questions. Thus this will be my 3rd and final response, after which the thread will be closed.
Your follow-up question is repetitive. As I said above, "Body to body rubbing, including non-penetrative penile rubbing is a no risk event with no risk for HIV.: The fact that your underwear were on further assures you that there was no risk for acquisition of infection. The fact that your underwear was wet with genital secretions, whether it was hers or yours does not change this- still a no risk event. EWH

We provide up to three responses to each clients question. Because the thread has not yet been closed I will provide a fourth answer and then the thread will be closed without for the responses.
Using large amounts of hand sanitizer or having wounds scrapes or cracking on your hands within no way affect your test results. Once again I urge you to believe your test results. You were in the clear. Take care. Please don’t worry. EWH
