[Question #9151] hiv antibodies at aids stages

Hi doc, hope you are doing well.
I have a question. So if i had sex with someone who has unknown hiv status, after about a year and half, I get hiv antibody test ( a third gen test i suppose that is) and it comes back negative. I then had a couple more 4th gen tests over the years. Every since the third gen test, two years have passed, and i am doing all right with every test negative so far. My health seems okay and i had done a couple of body checks in hospitals and the results were all fine. My question is, i have read documents and news on how patients in the aids phase, which is the final phase of hiv infection, to not be able to produce antibodies any more, which means testing would come back negative for them. Is that common? If someone does not get treated for one and half year like i did, is it likely for he or she could remain healthy-ish i like i did for more than two years?
I also heard if you do not have antibody detectable, antigen should then be detectable, is that true even in the final phases?
My final question would be, if i were injured by something sharp that may contain hiv blood, but my wound is too small to be noticed by my eyes and there is no visible blood, is there any risks for infection?
Thank you so much.

This is your 3rd new post in the past three days and 5th in the past 2 weeks. this is excessive, particularly as the scenarios you describe are, as both Dr. Handsfield and I have told you, virtually no risk events. I find myself wondering if you have been searching about HIV risks on the internet- if so, you appear have been misled. This will need to be your last question. Repetitive anxiety-driven threads are of little help to our clients and a mis-use of this Forum. After this thread is completed, future threads may be deleted without a response and without return of you posting fees.
Rarely in persons with far advanced, end-stage HIV, after many years of infection and when infected persons are in a state of severe malnutrition, on rare occasions HIV antibodies may not be detectable, This is extraordinarily rare and in such patients a p24 antigen test would still be positive. This would not occur after just a year and a half of infection
Your question about injuries by sharp things containing blood from an untreated HIV infected person is repetitive. You will see answers to this question in our earlier exchanges. EWH

Hi doc, thanks for responding and sorry to bother. I am worrying because I am about to leave home and in the next one year or so I might not be able to access hiv testing. In that scenario I want to make sure that I would be in complete no need of testing and no risk for my event. Sorry about that.

Thank you for the explanation. That said, be confident- no risk, no need for testing. EWH---

thank you! That makes me feel lot better. Final confirmation, my case was no risk? Or are you suggesting if I don’t participate in non protected sex or shared injection I won’t need testing anymore?
Thank you again in advance doctor. You have been great to help.

Both are correct. Nothing you described puts you at risk for HIV and you will not need testing, either for the episode that occurred in the cab nor if you do not paticpate in unprotected sexual contact or share needles.
This ends this thread. No further questions please. EWH
