Hi. So 10 weeks back I had a incident. In which I believe something was put in my drink long story short. I had insertive anal with a man ( never in my life have I been with a man) the next day i woke up in complete panic. Reached out to the guy  he told me he was on prep for 4 years  and test frequently I had nothing to worry about. Which I still worried about 3 days late I started to feel my body very tense. I went to get a full panel std test at 20 days everything came back negative. Still I felt extreme anxiety everyday I would Even cry and completely isolated myself. I read about 4 days in that lymph nodes are a sign aswell. I frantically would check my neck and groin every till week 4 I noticed lymph nodes they are very small pea sized by I can still feel them till today week. Today I still feel my neck tense and my Kees occasionally ache and lymph nodes are still present. I didn’t get a fever , rash , discharge or anything of that nature. I tested over 9 times by RAPID 3rd GEN blood test from my finger. My most frequent test have been week 6 , week 7 , week 8 , week 9 and Day 68 two days short of 10 weeks. I also tested prior to these dates about 4 times. Can I rule out HIV? The doctor at the clinic thinks what I’m experiencing is due to my major anxiety and stress.

Welcome to our Forum.  I'll be glad to answer your questions, then I have another comment or two.

HIV.  Be confident that you did not acquire HIV from the encounter you describe.  Antibody tests for HIV are conclusive at any time more than 8 weeks following an exposure.  Thus, your test results from weeks 8,9, and day 68 are each conclusive.  These results will not change related to this encounter.  You did not get HIV.  There is no need for further testing for HIV.

As for your lymph nodes, lymph nodes are normally palpable in most people and when they are enlarged and/or tender, the findings are no-specific.  If HIV were causing the lymph nodes you felt, your HIV test would have been positive.

Now my comment.  The emotions you experienced following your encounter are understandable- this was equivalent to date rape.  Anxiety of this sort is best address with professional counseling.  It sounds as though you have a good relationship with the doctor at the clinic but this is an instance where professional counseling may be particularly helpful.

I hope this information is helpful  EWH

Health care providers case your sort of symptoms “flu-like”.  They can be caused by many things.  Tests can tell us what is not causing symptoms as well as, sometimes, what is.  Your tests prove your symptoms are not due to HIV but don’t tell what might be.  Possibilities include the flu, COVID-19, and many many other none STI viruses.  Be confident your symptoms are not HIV.   Your tests prove that.

Thank you Dr! Now I feel a slight dry cough coming in. I will be going to my primary care to check of any possibilities. Have a great day you’re amazing!

Hi again. I’m starting to go back into my panic mood. My lymph nodes and body aches are still present. Are you positive I can buy hiv behind me? Could it be I have syphilis. I did a syphilis test about 20 days after exposure and came back negative

My assessment is unchanged.  If it would help your anxiety, you could repeat your tests for syphilis and HIV.  if you do, I am confident that they will show that you were not infected.   FYI, cough is not a sign of either recently acquired HIV or syphilis.  I would work with your PCP to address this without concern about STI from the encounter you described.

As this is my 3rd response,  as per Forum guidelines, this thread will be closed shortly without further responses.  Take care.  EWH
