[Question #9287] Herpe Testing

Hello,
Wondering if I should get HSV tested again or live my life?
Here’s some background - I’ve been with my husband for 7 years now and about 8 years ago, I had a risky partner who has been with a lot of woman. Once I moved on to my new relationship (now married to the same guy) I was filled with worry about contracting HSV from the previous partner. To confirm, no previous few partners prior to dating/marrying my husband has ever mentioned herpe exposure or symptoms, this is just my anxiety.
After numerous OBGYN visits in the past 7-8 years with them telling me nothing resembled herpes, 2-3 years ago I finally decided to pull the trigger and get IGG antibody tested (3 years into my relationship with my husband) and it was negative for HSV1 and HSV2. My husband also got tested prior to our relationship and was negative for both HSV 1 and HSV2. So my mind was at ease. On top of that, my husband has never had any bumps or sores in his genitals so that was also reassuring.
Well, a couple weeks ago, we had longer sex (Which I was dryer than normal) and then did a cycling workout the next day without the correct bike shorts (lots of rubbing). I felt off after these 2 things and I’m very sensitive down there. I noticed a little itchiness and 2 sores/rips on my perineo. Which is right where it was rubbing when I was cycling. They only really hurt when tight clothes rub on them.
With this, all of my worry has come back. I’ve been with the same partner for the past 7 years in a 100% monogamous marriage. So all in all, could this be related to friction/rougher dryer sex? Or should I get tested again?
Thank you in advance.

Clarifying the question + one more callout:
When I got my first IGG test that was negative, it was 3 years after any potential exposure so thinking antibodies would have been present by that point.
- Is it possible these sores on my perineo could be related to friction/constant rubbing?
- Should I get tested again or live my life knowing I’ve gotten tested (as well as my husband has) and it’s been negative?

I apologize, one more thing I wanted to include:
- the only time I’ve had a sore somewhat similar to what I mentioned above, was about 4 years ago and it went away in a 4-5 days without crusting or scabbing and no pain. Then 2 years later is when I got an IGG blood test that was negative.
Thanks again!

It sounds to me like there is a pretty obvious cause for the irritation: biking for a long time in inappropriate clothing and extended sex without enough lubrication.  Nothing you've described here sounds like herpes to me.  You both test negative for both types, and yet you still worry, and when something a bit "off" happens in the genital area, it raises your concerns once again.  Sounds to me like herpes is kind of a stubborn, vulnerable worry for you and intermittently continues to be so.  This sounds nothing like herpes to me.  But I wonder what could help you put this worry aside for good?

Thank you! Appreciate your quick response!
You are definitely right, think it’s more of a mental game. Before I put this to rest for myself, my last two questions (if that’s allowed):
1. Since I IGG negative tested for both HSV1 and HSV2 3 years after any potential exposure wouldn’t antibodies show up by that point?
2. Is it possible to get an open sore in that area I mentioned that is related to friction or rubbing or is a sore always associated with herpes?
Thank you

1. Yes, I believe they would .
2.  It is possible to get a sore from rubbing like with the bike or rough sex, yes.  Also very bad yeast infections can cause what might look like a sore as well.  Sometimes bacterial infections can cause things that look like herpes sores as well, though they are more superficial.
