[Question #9297] Oral Sex STI
|
Hi, I had protected vaginal sex with a sex worker two days ago. I then finished with unprotected oral sex. I ejaculated in her mouth. I made a mistake and had been drinking. I have a partner who is pregnant at home. How long should I refrain from having sex and is there any risk to the baby? What are the general risks from unprotected oral and should I get tested/wait before having sex with my partner?

Welcome to the Forum. Thanks for your questions. I'll be glad to comment. Among penetrative sex acts, receipt of oral sex is of lower risk than most. The main infections acquired from receipt of oral sex are gonorrhea and non-chlamydial NGU which some would argue is not a risk to sex partners. Gonorrhea typically becomes symptomatic within 3-5 days after exposure which non-chlamydial NGU may take longer, a week or so. In both infections, the major symptoms include a penile discharge and burning on urination. Any time after 3-5 days, a urine test would rule out these STIs.

The risk for other STIs is lower.
Hope this comment is helpful. EWH

Hi Dr. Hook, thank you for that response. Is there harm in terms of having sex with my pregnant partner? Would it be best to wait the 5 or so days for symptoms or to do a test?

The safest of all possible courses would be to have a urine test for STIs at this time. This is in part because some STIs can be asymptomatic. Overall, you risk for infection is low but to if you wish to be absolutley safe, probably best to test. EWH---
