[Question #9346] Crabs/Lice

Good Morning

I recently had a massive error in judgement. I went to a massage parlor where she proceeded to get naked and give me a full body massage. When she massaged me i had my underwear on I was making sure she did not rub her vagina against my penis. however there may have been slight brushing contact a few seconds.
she masturbated me and i masturbated her. we did not perform any oral sex or vaginal sex.
I am worried about crabs. a few days after the massage  around 6 to 7 or so,

i have developed first what was a burn on my inner thigh. i had used an OTC cream and that went away but i feel this rather crawling tingling sensation on my genital hair. it itches at times nothing crazy. before the inner thigh burn began it all started with some light itching in my pubic hair region and then progressed to inner thigh burning.

I inspected for lice and did not see anything. i also shaved my genital hair to help see any lice if that is even possible.

can you tell me what my risk level is for catching lice

i am reading these are symptoms of lice but i also read on the forum that this type of activity is virtually no risk. I wanted to know if i had lice or crabs not sure if it is the same thing?

would i see them?

does this warrant testing considering the itching. i dont believe i am risk of herpes or shypilis or atleast i hope note based on what i have read.

my main concern is the occasional itch and if this is lice as i dont want to give my partner crabs/lice.

thank you kindly,

Just to be clear my brushing of a few seconds thar I refer to would have been with me naked and her naked.

I am well aware I think I maybe more paranoid as the internet has convinced me I have something.

I think in addition to the guilt browsing the web has not helped so after I get these answers I will move ahead.

Thanks

One last thing. If it was crabs or lice would the crawling/ tingling/itching come and go or would it stay until treated.

Reason I ask is when I had the inner thigh burning I don't recall the tingling, itching, crawling feeling as frequently or present during the possible fungal infection

Thanks

Welcome to the forum. Thank you for your confidence in our services.

I cannot judge the exact risk of acquiring crab lice from the sort of event you describe, but almost certainly it is very low. It is especially low if the establishment seemed clear, with fresh sheets for each customer. It also sounds like there was little body contact of the sort that usually transmits Phthirus pubis (the crab louse); usually that involves prolonged pubic area apposition, of the sort that usually occurs during vaginal intercourse, and not hand-body or hand-genital contact. Another factor to consider is whether your massage partner shaves her pubic area. Pubic shaving markedly reduces the chance she has crab lice you could have caught. Similarly, if you shave your pubic area, you are at low risk of catching lice.

It is true that some people with crab lice feel them moving, and therefore experience a crawling sensation or tingling. However, the large majority of such symptoms have other causes. If you truly have pubic lice, you definitely can see evidence of them. Lock for white spots near the bases of your pubic hairs (the eggs left by lice); and also use a magnifying glass to look carefully for the tiny (pin-head size) lice clinging to pubic hairs. You also can run a fine comb through your pubic hair and see if you remove small moving brown flecks that, with a magnifying glass, obviously are small insect-like organisms. If you do these things and none shows these results, you can be very confident you do not have pubic lice. I would also stop internet searching about symptoms -- you'll only find information that inflames your fears. It isn't worth it! None of the other symptoms you describe is suggestive of lice, including the rash of your thigh.

Finally, if you still remain worried about this, highly effective and easy to use treatments for pubic lice are available over the counter. Look for lotions or creams with active ingredients permethrin plus piperonyl butuoxide, e.g. Rid® and other brands. A single treatment is effective.

I hope these comments are helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.

Thank you

The crawling feeling is making me think twice

Will a product called Nix work. It has lllicium verum and says its a complete lice elimination system.

But it seems to be targeted for headlice?

I'm not very familiar with Nix and do not know how effective it will be. Read the label and/or perhaps ask the pharmacist for advice. If its effectiveness remains unclear, I suggest you find a product specifically for pubic lice, such as Rid®).

You haven't answered any of my implied questions that would help assess your risk. I'll just point out that your symptoms are far more suggestive of anxiety than possible pubic lice. Did you even try to confirm the diagnosis in the ways I suggested?

My Apologies

I am unshaven and she was unshaven as well. The place does clean their sheets.

I do not notice any lice eggs I have checked. I do need to see with a microscope.

I am incanada so I will ask them about something similar to rid.

I didn't have alot of vaginally to pens contact. So I am hopeful as well it was not crabs. I know the burning inner thigh I felt got better once I used the cream. I know when I was using the cream my skin got dry around that area. Either way I will ask the pharmacist for a cream or lotion

I'm also not familiar with that product. If you find one with the active ingredients I listed, I'm sure it would work. (Or maybe that's a typo? Permethrin, not persevering?) If the label says it is effective against public lice, probably it is. Or check with your munitipal or provincial health department. Almost all of them have online info about pubic lice.

That said, I remain confident you do not have pubic lice. I hope treatment improves your symptoms, but do not get your hopes up. If it doesn't work, a logical next step would be to see a dermatologist about your symptoms.

That completes the two follow-up exchanges included with each initial question and so ends this thread. I hope the discussion has been helpful.
