[Question #9369] Syphilis tests
|
I had 5 negative syphilis tests, last one at 71 days which was an instant fingerstick one.
An EIA one sent to a lab at 7 weeks after potential protected exposure. I have second stage symptoms- a pimple type rash and what seems to be hair loss starting aswell.
I had another EIA test done at 77 days but still waiting the results. How likely are these tests to be wrong or the results changing at the 90 day mark, I know the jnfo mostly says six weeks but the symptoms I'm displaying are very distressing.
Thanks

Welcome to our forum and thanks for your questions. I’ll be glad to comment on your syphilis test results. They are entirely conclusive and rule out any possibility that you acquired syphilis from exposure is occurring more than seven weeks ago from your history. There is no need for further testing for Syphilis. You have ruled it out entirely.
I hope this information is helpful to you. You mentioned distressing symptoms but do not describe them. The symptoms of syphilis are quite variable but if you would like to describe them as well as any risks that you might have I would be happy to provide further comments and you are up to two follow ups. Hi thanks so much for the quick response, the symptoms I have so far are a pimple type rash, almost looks like folliculitis but it doesn't itch, and some hair loss which I've only noticed in the past couple weeks but I know it could be due to the stress I've been under the past while with all this.

Thanks for the description. Stress can certainly affect you were here and the rash you describe is non-specific. Take comfort that you have completely ruled out Syphilis. EWH---

Hi sorry last question I know, I have a skin condition- H.S I think it's like an autoinflammotory condition, would that have any affect on how long I'd take to develop antibodies, would the 7 week estimate still be the same for me?
Thanks so much

Your skin condition would have no effect on the time needed for a syphilis test to become positive. Have confidence in your test results. You did not acquire syphilis and do not need further testing. Time for you to move forward without continuing concerns.
This completes this thread. Take care. EWH
