[Question #9385] Insertive oral sex & 4th gen test

I received oral sex from a female escort in her apartment but later found out that she would also work on the street. She sucked my penis without a condom for about 5 minutes. I didn't notice any blood or that she had any mouth sores. I didn't have any sores on my penis either.
Symptoms.
A. 1-10 days after exposure, bellyache. No diarrhea, just softer once a day (I had a bellyache before the event).
B.On day 14 I had a rash immediately after taking a medicine and got red all over my back and face , it went away after 15-20 minutes and did not appear again . Intoxicated?
C. On day 15-16 the head of my penis was red , I was urinating more often and when I was erect some red bubbles appeared on it .Nothing white or yellow was discharged from it , it didn't hurt , it didn't sting when I urinated and it didn't itch .
D. on day 20 I started to feel cold , headaches that came and went , stuffy nose and coughing heavily . I mention that I was losing my taste and smell. My mother had the same symptoms. I did NOT have enlarged lymph nodes, fever or sweating. This cold kept me going for quite a while. It may have been covid.
My tests were 4th generation combi hiv 1/2 and p24 antigen done in medical lab and blood was taken from vein. First test 29 days after exposure and 2nd test 43 days after exposure .
Day 30. All the tests for stds . All negative only hsv-1 positive.
Questions:
1. Are my tests conclusive? How conclusive is the 43 day test ?
2. Should I do another test ?

Welcome to our Forum. Thanks for your questions. I'll be glad to comment.
The exposure you describe was virtually no risk for HIV. Most commercial sex workers do not have HIV and, more importantly, there are no instances in which HIV has been proven to result in HIV infection. The symptoms you describe are non-specific. Your tests prove that you were not infected as well. At 4 weeks (28 days) more than 99% of persons who have acquired HIV will have positive 4th generation, combination HIV antigen/antibody tests and at all times more than 42 days, results are entirely conclusive. Your tests prove that you were not infected with HIV from the encounter you describe. You can have complete confidence in your test results. There is no need for further testing.
I hope this information is helpful. You are in the clear. EWH

Thank you for your answer Doctor. What still scares me and makes me question mark is that both my test results came back 0.25 < 1 . Is there a possibility that after 2 weeks the value will stay the same? Or could it be a lab error?
Can I go back to my life now? I've been super stressed and anxious for 6 weeks. I thought I would recover when I saw the test results after 6 weeks but I'm still scared.
I saw that you normally don't recommend testing after such an event. Did I do the wrong thing to get so scared and get tested?
If you were in my place, would you have full confidence and not be worried?

Although the values may vary somewhat because of the nature of the test chemistry, I have absolute confidence that your test will remain negative. You did not acquire HIV!!!
You did not do the wrong thing by testing but now that you have, you should be reassured and confident that you did not get HIV. It is time to put your fears aside and move forward without concern. EWH

Hello, Doctor. I went for 2 more tests at 2 different medical labs on day 51 ( 7 weeks and 2 days ) The tests were 4th generation combi. Both were negative again.
1. Considering that I contracted genital herpes as a result of this contact (my doctor consulted me and gave me treatment for genital herpes), could it be possible that I also contracted hiv?
2. After my last negative test at 7 and a half weeks should I still be worried?
3.Should I have more tests? Have you ever had a patient who was negative at 7 1/2 weeks and then became positive?
4. The nurses at the lab told me I should retest every 3 months including 6 months. Is this outdated thinking?
5.If I were your patient would you tell me to go on with my life without looking back and worrying ?

We provide up to three responses to each clients question. This is my third response and therefore this thread will because shortly after these responses.
1. Absolutely not! Your test HIV results are entirely conclusive.
2. This is a repetitive question. The answer will not change. You did not acquire HIV from the exposure you tested for.
3. See number one and two above. There is no reason for further testing.
4. Yes, this is outdated advice.
5. Absolutely
As I mentioned above. This will complete this thread. Please move forward without continuing concert. There is no need for additional testing. EWH
