[Question #9398] Broken condom - 1 night stand

Hello team,
I hope you’re doing well. I had a one night stand last night with a woman who is a friend of a friend. She gave me unprotected oral sex, we had sex with a condom, but the condom broke, so I stopped to put another one on, and it broke again, so I put another one on, and resumed sex. We ended with her giving me unprotected oral sex. I ejaculated in her mouth. She is not a sex worker, just a friends friend. I’m in the Boston area. Should I take PEP? Should I be concerned? She had condoms at her house so I’m under the impression that she practices safe sex in general. 10PM will be the closing of 24 hours since exposure. I’m just wondering if I should ask my PCP for PEP or if I’m at risk for anything. I’m a heterosexual male who only has sex with women and she is a heterosexual woman who only has sex with men.
Thanks team

Welcome to our form. Thanks for your questions.
I see no reason for seeking pep related to the encounter you described. It is statistically unlikely that your partner has HIV As HIV is rare in women. Further, even in the very unlikely circumstance that she had untreated HIV, your likelihood of becoming infected as a result of a single, partially unprotected encounter is substantially less than one infection per 100 sex acts, on average ( In other words, in the unlikely circumstance that she was infected, there is a 99.9% chance you would not become infected). There are no proven cases in which someone has acquired HIV from receipt of unprotected oral sex so, you’re only risk, and that is small, is your partially unprotected vaginal sex. If you are concerned, my advice would be to ask her. when she had been last tested for STI’s, including HIV.
I hope this perspective is helpful. If there are further questions, please use you were up to follow ups for clarification. EWH
