[Question #9451] HSV and HPV

I was diagnosed with HPV  GW in June of this year. I had them removed, have had no recurrence and have not engage in any type of sex since then. Right after I had the warts removed ,I noticed a burning sensation/irritation in one area in my genitals. This would last 1-3 days and then occur  again in a week or so. This went on for a few months . I never had any vesicles that are typical of HSV but since this occurred I have been very concerned that I could also potentially have genital HSV. Initially, I attributed to the fact that I juts had GW removed although the irritation was not right at the area were the warts were.  I also attributed to the high level of anxiety due to the recent GW diagnosis.  I've had oral HSV-1 most of my life. As a teenager I would get outbreaks once or twice a year but now it has been at least 7 years since I had an outbreak. A few days ago, my western blot results for HSV came in negative for HSV-2 and as expected positive for HSV-1.  I have never felt the need to disclose my oral HSV in the past, however, if I were to have genital HSV i would definitely disclose that. I am planning on disclosing my GW diagnosis ;though my plan was to wait until I hit the year mark without recurrence before I engage in sex.  Now I am terrified of potentially having to disclose two STDs . My questions are : Does having HPV genital warts (no active lesions) increase the risks of contracting genital HSV? Since I've had oral HSV-1 most of my life does that protect me in some way  from getting genital HSV-1 (If read a few conflicting responses similar questions)?

Once you have HSV 1 in one location (your oral area), it is highly unlikely that you would get it in a new location.  HPV would not contribute to the risk of acquiring genital herpes, no.
The fact that you are negative on the western blot is confirmative that you don't have HSV 2.  Great news for you.
I think it's time to take this worry off your list.
